Race 1
PRESLEY has produced three decent efforts to date. He jumped inwards leaving the start last time but the manner in which he finished off his race was encouraging. The son of Oratorio will love the rise to 1400m. He is drawn widest of all but he gets the services of Gavin Lerena who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
MASTERSHIP finished 2.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
LE GRAND CAFE produced an encouraging debut effort over 1500m on the Vaal Classic course. He would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be competitive.
Race 2
GREAT BARRIER has shown improvement in each of her races to date. She showed speed over 1160m last time and stayed on at the finish. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The daughter of Rafeef should have no issues with the step up to 1400m and she may be the one to side with.
MIZZEN SAIL stayed on at the finish over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course last time but found one too good in the form of Courageous. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
FRANCES ETHEL is an unraced daughter of Rafeef from the Brett Crawford stable with Kabelo Matsunyane in the saddle. She is related to multiple winners including Jaimala and Kitchakal. If not in need of the run, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.
Race 3
AL BAYREG has improved in his last two starts, the latest of which was over 1800m at the Vaal. The son of Silvano is bred to enjoy the rise to 2400m. He has scope and may be the one to beat. He is carded to race on 21 December 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
JUDGEMENT DAY set the pace over 2000m last time, but found one too good in the form of Duke Of Oxford. He tries the 2400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should pose a threat.
CRIMSON FOREST showed very good improvement in her last start over 2000m on the Vaal Classic course. She raced from a handy position, moved up well but was caught late by Exhale. The tongue-tie seems to have done the trick and she should give the males a run for their money. She is carded to race on 21 December 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 4
ELECTRIC GOLD was running on when second in the Grade 3 Betway Victory Moon Stakes last time. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from five starts over this C&D. The son of Flying The Flag is having his peak run today and he can notch up his fifth-career victory.
SHOEMAKER ran on from far back when fifth in the Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He is slowly returning to best form and is one of the leading contenders.
RENY stayed on when third over 1700m at the Vaal last time. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. She is the best-weighted runner in this contest and should give the males a run for their money.
Race 5
APACHE FIGHTER has good recent form lines to her credit. She stayed on when third over 1800m on this course last time. She has won once, finished second once and third once from four starts over this distance. Muzi Yeni steps back into the saddle and she should be the one to beat.
UNITED COUNCIL should have finished closer last time as she had to be steadied at the 300m mark. She finished 2.1 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate run. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
SPECIAL CHARM finished 1 length behind the top selection last time. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
Race 6
CLIFF HANGER stayed on when third in his last start over this C&D. It must be noted that Rulership has come out and won again since. He meets his own age group today and should be the horse to beat.
ZIYASHA finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights and should finish closer as a result.
GOLDEN SICKLE is a winner of her last two starts, the latest of which was in the Listed National Colour Stakes. The daughter of Vercingetorix is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D. She is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
Race 7
RULERSHIP broke the course record when winning his last start over this distance at the Vaal. He is unbeaten from two starts since joining the Tony Peter stable. The son of William Longsword meets Grade 3 Company this afternoon. He is in a good space and can notch up the hat-trick.
MAGIC TATTOO finished 4.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. He will strip much fitter and may pose a threat.
MOVER AND SHAKER finished 2 lengths behind the top selection in the race referred to above. He is 3kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.
Race 8
ICE STAR has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth in her last start has come out and won since. She finished 0.15 lengths behind MOONSHININGTHROUGH in her penultimate run. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line. Denis Schwarz may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
MOONSHININGTHROUGH’S last two starts have been fair. It must be noted that the form of her last outing has been franked. She should produce another honest effort.
RAGNAR LOTHBROK finished 0.5 lengths behind BOLD ACT last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.

CULLINAN BLUE ran on strongly to win her last start over this C&D. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. The daughter of Vercingetorix has plenty of class and she can notch up her third career victory.
MYTHICAL DREAM ran a decent race when third over this C&D last time. She meets similar opposition and merits healthy respect.
