Race 2

LACEWING raced from a handy position over 1500m on the Vaal Classic course last time, but found one too good in the form of Silver Parasol. Her penultimate run when second over this distance catches the eye. The daughter of Danon Platina meets the right field today and she can shed her maiden tag.

VULCANITE was a tad disappointing in her last start over 1100m at the Vaal. She finished third over 1000m on this course, on debut. The daughter of Erupt has plenty of scope and she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

KURAMATHI finished 2.75 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.

Race 3

ACCEPT COOKIES is the best bet on the programme. She showed good improvement when third over this C&D last time. The manner in which she finished off her race that day was encouraging. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight is a progressive type and she should take a power of beating.

STROOPSOET ran a fair race over 1000m on this course last time. The daughter of Pomodoro is bred to enjoy the rise in distance and there should be more to come from her.

GLAMOROUS LADY ran a fair race on debut over this C&D. She returns from an 11-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should finish in the placings.

Race 4

KALEESH CYBORG produced a promising debut effort over 1160m on the Standside course. He was green in running, but the manner in which he finished off his race was eye-catching. The son of Global View would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1450m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he may be the one to beat.

BUSSTOPINHOUNSLOW has shown improvement in each of his outings to date. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he will love the rise to 1450m. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

CHIEFTAIN’S SHIELD’S last two starts have been fair. He is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. With a bit of luck from his awkward draw of eight, he should earn another cheque for his patrons.

Race 5

BINGWA is better than his last two starts. He has won once, finished second four times and third twice from nine starts on this course. The 7yo gelding is the class package in this contest and despite his big mass of 62kgs, he is the horse to side with.

MERCANTOUR ran a fair race in his comeback run over this distance on the Standside course. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. With a bit of luck in running, he can go close.

SWING UPON A STAR finished 0.5 lengths ahead of the top choice last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.

Race 6

LEAD THE CHARGE was not disgraced when fourth in the Grade 2 @Worldpool Twitter Umkhomazi Stakes last time. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. He is the best weighted runner in this contest and is the horse to beat.

BUFFALO STORM CODY finished 1.3 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.

TAXI TO THE MOON is the stable companion of the second selection. He won a good race over 1160m on the Standside course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He is not the stable elect but merits obvious inclusion.

Race 7

CHASING HAPPINESS has good recent form lines to her credit. She is unbeaten from two starts on this course. The daughter of Rafeef has won once, finished second once and third once from as many starts over this distance. She is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.

FORCE EIGHT stayed on when third over 1160m on the Standside course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. If jumping on terms, she should give her older rivals a run for their money.

BOSUM BUDDY showed good speed when second over 1160m on the Standside course last time. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. She has plenty of scope and cannot be ignored.

Race 8

JULIET TANGO has shown signs of a form return in her last three starts. She stayed on when fourth over 1600m at the Vaal last time. She has won once and finished second twice from five starts on this course. Piere Strydom is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

MILLAHUE challenged strongly in his last start but found one too good in the form of Vesuvio. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Should the top choice fluff her lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

WILLOW’S WISH is better than his last start as the jockey reported something to be amiss in running. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D and will be looking to keep that record intact.

Race 9

ARIEL’S JET moved up like a winner over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time, but was outrun late. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She jumps from pole position and can notch up her second-career victory.

MIGHTY GODDESS stayed on when second over 1500m on this course last time. She returns from an 11-week break which would have done her the world of good. If fit, she should go close to winning.

PLAY WITH FIRE stayed on when third over 1600m at the Vaal last time. She won her only attempt over this distance. With a bit of luck from her wide draw, she should earn a cheque
