Race 1
This is a weak Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is GALLADORN from the Brett Crawford stable. He showed some improvement in his last start over 1200m on this course. He is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. With luck in running, he can shed his maiden tag in this field.
GUARDIA REGINE finished 0.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
BREATH OF MAGIC ran a fair race over 1400m on the Standside course last time. On best form shown, he can earn a cheque in this line-up.
Race 2
BATTLEGROUND was running on too late when second over 2850m last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He won his only attempt over this C&D. The son of Futura is the class horse in the race and can go one better.
POSITIVE ATTITUDE took the lead at the 600m mark last time, tried hard but found one too good in the form of Rule Book. He should enjoy the step up to 2600m and is one of the leading contenders. FUSHIMI
INARI should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung in the final 200m. The son of Danon Platina should have no issues with the rise to 2600m. He carries a handy galloping mass of 53kgs and if keeping on a straight line, he should be competitive.
Race 3
BOSSY BOOTS stayed on when third over this C&D last time. The daughter of Admiral Kitten meets the right field and if getting away to a clean start, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
LA CHANCE is an unraced daughter of Vercingetorix from the Clinton Binda stable with Siyanda Sosibo in the saddle. She is related to multiple winners including Tout A Fait and Hedwig. She does not need to be a stable superstar to win in this line-up and if not too green, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.
JUMPING ANALIA’S last three starts have been fair. It must be noted that the horse that finished second in her last outing has come out and won since. The daughter of Erupt can improve to finish in the placings.
Race 4
SOUND MACHINE showed very good improvement in her last start over 1400m on the Standside course. She raced from a handy position, but found one too good in the form of Dimako’s Jet. The daughter of Var is a progressive type and from pole position, can go one better.
EMPRESSOFNORMANDY finished 0.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
QUICK TRIP returns from an 11-week break and is having her first run on the Highveld. She brings some decent form lines with her. The obvious concern is the widest draw of 11 but with luck in running, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 5
RICHARD THE FIRST was running on strongly when third over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course last time. He has finished second twice from as many starts on this course. The son of William Longsword will love the rise to 1450m and if not too far out of his ground turning for home, he can return to winning ways.
PRINCEOFGREEN took on a competitive field in the Grade 3 Betway Got The Greenlight Stakes last time. He has won twice and finished second once from four starts over this distance. He drops back in class and is one of the leading contenders.
SEA ANEMONE set the pace over 1400m last time, but was outrun late. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She jumps from pole position and should give the males a run for their money.
Race 6
TOFFAS showed good signs of a form return in his last start over 1400m on the Standside course. He set the pace that day but was outrun late. The tongue-tie seems to have done the trick on the son of Pomodoro. He is likely to have his own way in front once again and can return to winning ways.
DUNGEONS is better than his last start over this distance on the Standside course. He takes a drop-in class and on his penultimate run, he should pose a threat.
A PLACE IN THE SUN should have won her last start as she hung in the final 400m. She is in a good space and if keeping on a straight line, she should be competitive.
Race 7
LA MOOHAL followed up his maiden victory with a good second-place finish over this distance on the Standside course. He challenged strongly all the way to the line, but found one too good in the form of Presley. He jumps from a good draw of two and may be the one to beat.
GODFATHER finished 3.45 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 3kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
DIESEL’S SHADOW finished 3.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned, but he should finish closer.
Race 8
LIL MISS MONEYBAGS was her own worst enemy over 1200m last time as she over raced in the early stages. Two of her three career victories have come over this distance. Kaidan Brewer retains the ride and she may be the one to side with.
CIRCUS LIGHTS ran on powerfully to win his last start over 1200m on this course. He received a four-pound penalty for that victory. He is in a good space and should be the first male past the post.
LADY CRUSADE was an easy winner when shedding her maiden tag over this distance last time. She showed good speed, found another kick and drew clear of the opposition. She takes on stronger, but has scope and should be up to the task at hand. She is carded to race on 01 February 2024 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored
