Swallows 22/10 Draw 19/10 Cape Town City 1.37/1

Swallows have a tough set of fixtures to start with. They began with a derby clash away to Pirates on Saturday and they went down 1-0, conceding early doors in a first half where they rarely threatened. There was improvement after the break and they had chances to rescue a point but the team who scored just 22 league goals last season fired blanks again.

City hosted champions Sundowns in their opening match in Cape Town on Friday night. They were well organized in defence in a first half that ended without a goal but Downs scored twice in the second period and ran out 2-0 winners.

City started last season's DSTV Premiership slowly with just 1 win in their first 6 matches before they gained momentum as they went on and they finished as runners up. The first league meeting with Swallows last season finished 0-0 and City won the return 2-1 in Cape Town. In between City were 4-0 winners away from home in the MTN8.

The Verdict

Neither side found the net in the opening round although they both faced tough tests. This looks likely to be tight and with Swallows record of finishing all square in 14 of 30 league games last season in mind, I'll sit on the fence go with the draw

Kaizer Chiefs 8/10 Draw 2.15/1 Martizburg United 37/10

Chiefs visited Royal AM in their opening match on Saturday. They made a disastrous start, conceding a sloppy goal in the opening minute and although they enjoyed plenty of possession thereafter there was no way through and they went down 1-0. Chiefs have had a major clear out with several big names released although Billiat and Dolly led the attack at the weekend and they certainly had their chances to at least restore parity.

Maritzburg's opening match at home to Sekhukhune ended all square at 1-1. They fell behind in the fifteenth minute and had to wait until 9 minutes from full time to equalize. The goal, from Bongani Sam, came from a rebound off the keeper who saved a penalty and a share of the spoils was probably about right.

The Team of Choice lost both league matches to Chiefs last season, 1-0 at home and 2-0 away.

The Verdict

Chiefs played some good football at the tail end of last season and although they passed up a few chances in their defeat on Saturday the likes of Billiat and Dolly should be a handful for the visitors here. I'll go with Chiefs to edge it by a single goal margin.

Bet: Kaizer Chiefs to win by 1 goal exactly at 5/2 with Betway.
