Orlando Pirates v Mamelodi Sundowns

Pirates are 9 points behind Sundowns in the title race and both teams have 7 remaining league matches. KZN sides Arrows and Amazulu are 4 and 8 points respectively better off than Pirates in the standings but they have played 2 games more.

The Bucs have made progress in the CAF Confederations Cup but they have been unable to get in a blow in the title race thus far and games are running out. They played out a 1-1 draw at Swallows last weekend and a recent home game against Maritzburg delivered a 2-0 win but prior to that they lost the derby 1-0 to Chiefs.

Sundowns grip on the title race is nothing like as firm as it was 2 weekes ago. If Amazulu (1 point behind Downs) beat Arrows a day before this game takes place Downs will lose top spot. In their last 3 league matches Downs have drawn 0-0 at Amazulu, lost 2-1 to Chiefs and most recently they played out another 0-0 draw at home to Arrows.

Downs thrashed Pirates 4-1 in the Nedbank Cup quarter finals as recently as 15th April but they were subsequently knocked out in the semi finals by Tshakhuma on spot kicks after another 0-0 draw.

Recent Head to Head

Aside from that recent Nedbank Cup clash the first legaue meeting this season was staged on the 2nd January and Downs edged it 1-0.

The Betting

In the early betting Pirates are trading at around 37/20 to win the game with the draw at 2/1 and Sundowns can be backed at around 15/10

A game of 3 goals or more in total is priced at 16/10 and it's 11/10 for both teams to find the net.

Verdict:

Sundowns played Pirates off the park in the Nedbank Cup clash in April but since then they have scored just 1 goal in 4 matches (3 league, 1 cup). They remain very solid defensively but the lack of recent goals has to be a concern.

For Pirates it's a bit of a shot to nothing as their already slim hopes of the title will be as good as over if they lose here. With that in mind we might see them adopt a positive approach and a much better display than they put in against Downs in the cup. .

I wouldn't be surprised to see Downs to return to winning ways but preference is for the goals markets and both teams to find the net.

Bet: Both teams to score? (yes) at 11/10
