Barcelona 0.38/1 Draw 4.25/1 Dortmund 6.25/1
Barcelona saw off Benfica in the Ro16, coming through 4-1 on aggregate after winning the first leg in Lisbon 1-0 and the return 3-1.
Barca finished as runners up to Liverpool in the league phase with a record of 6 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat. They lost their first match away to Monaco before reeling off 6 straight wins and a 2-2 draw at home to Atalanta.
Barca were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Betis at the weekend but they remain top of La Liga, 4 points clear of Real Madrid and 7 better off than third placed Atletico.
Dortmund were made to work hard to book their quarter final ticket. They drew the first leg of their match up with Lille 1-1 on home turf and conceded first in the return before turning things around to win 2-1 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate.
Dortmund finished tenth in the league phase with 5 wins and 3 defeats. In the play offs a 3-0 win away to Sporting put them in complete control and the second leg in fronty of their own supporters finished without a goal.
Dortmund are only eighth in the Bundesliga where their record of 12 wins, 5 draws and 11 defeats tells a story of inconsistency.
The Verdict
These teams met in Dortmund in the league phase and Barca won 3-2 with all the goals arriving in the second half. It's hard to argue with Barca right now and I'll side with a home team multi goals tally of 2-3.
Bets: Home team multi goals, 2-3 at even money with Sportingbet
PSG 0.38/1 Draw 4/1 Aston Villa 6.25/1
PSG were involved in a titanic Round of 16 battle with Liverpool which went all the way to penalty kicks. Liverpool won 1-0 in Paris and PSG were 1-0 winners in the second leg at Anfield and then held their nerve in the shoot out.
PSG looked in trouble at one stage in the league phase but they rallied to finish 14th with a record of 4 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats. They won each of their last 3 in the new format to set up a play off with Brest. That proved to be the most one sided of match ups with PSG winning 10-0 on aggregate.
PSG are 22 points clear at the top of Ligue 1, undefeated with 25 wins and 5 draws and they have already clinched the title.
Villa's passage to the quarters was more straight as they put Club Brugge away 6-1 on aggregate, winning the first leg 3-1 away from home before finishing the job at Villa Park.
Villa avoided the play offs after finishing 8th in the league phase to advance straight to the Ro16. They won 5 of their league matches, the pick of which came at home to Bayern.
Villa are seventh in the EPL standings but its very congested and they are only 2 points behind fourth placed Chelsea. They have reeled off 7 straight wins across all competitions and have made it to the FA Cup semi finals.
The Verdict
PSG really put a marker down in the previous against Liverpool and Villa will need an exceptional performance to keep the tie alive for the second leg. I'm thinking home win but Villa can find the net too.
Bets: PSG to win and both teams to score? (yes) at 1.87/1 with Sportingbet (price boost).
