Chelsea

Chelsea took a first leg lead through Pulisic aafter just 14 minutes last week but Benzema equalised before the half hour mark and there was no further scoring. Possession was just about even but Chelsea recorded 5 attempts on target to Real's 1 and Chelsea were awarded 6 corners to Real's 4.

In earlier knockout rounds Seville was the neutral venue for both legs of Chelsea's quarter final match up with Porto. Chelsea took control after a 2-0 win in the first leg thanks to goals from Mason Mount and Chilwell and although they lost the second leg 1-0 they went through 2-1 on aggregate.

Chelsea's Round of 16 match up with Atletico Madrid looked likely to be tight but Chelsea won both legs, 1-0 in Madrid and then 2-0 in London.

Chelsea's Premier League form has been rock solid with just 1 defeat under Thomas Tuchel and a 2-0 home win over Fulham at the weekend saw them retain fourth spot in the standings, at the time or writing they 5 points clear of fifth placed Spurs though West Ham and Liverpool could reduce that gap if they win their games in hand. Chelsea also have an FA Cup Final against Leicester to look forward to at the end of the season.

Real Madrid

Real are tasked with having to score in regulation time to have any chance of going through. They were paired with English opposition in the quarter finals where they completed a 3-1 aggregate win over Liverpool. Real took control of that tie with a 3-1 win (brace for Vinicius) in the first leg before playing out a goalless draw in the return at Anfield.

In the last 16 Real completed a 4-1 aggregate win over Atalanta. In the first leg they eventually made their numerical advantage count, scoring the only goal of the game late on and Atalanta played with 10 men from the 17th minute onwards. Real then finished the job with a 3-1 win in the return in Madrid.

Real were knocked out by Manchester City on away goals in last season's Champions League Round of 16.

Real are still very much involved in the La Liga title race and at the time of writing Real were 2 points behind league leaders Atletico with 4 rounds of matches to go.

The Betting

Chelsea are currently trading at around 23/20 to win the second leg in 90 minutes with the draw at 24/10 and Real Madrid can be backed at around 2.55/1

A game of 3 goals or more is 1.33/1 and it's just over even money for both teams to score in 90 minutes

To qualify for the final under any method of victory Chelsea are priced at 0.62/1 and Real are 13/10

The winner of this tie will face Manchester City or PSG in the final and to win the Champions League outright this season Chelsea are trading at around 7/2 and Real Madrid are 5/1.

Verdict:

This looks a tricky call to me as although Real need a goal, they don't have to chase the game from the first whistle.

I could be wide of the mark but I'm going to take a chance on a slow burner with over 1.5 goals in the second half when hopefully the game will be more open.

Bets: 2nd half total goals over 1.5 at 1.45/1
