Uefa Champions League Groups A to D are in focus on Wednesday and we take a look at the betting for selected matches including Liverpool v Atalanta and Inter Milan v Real Madrid

 

 

 

Group A

 

Bayern Munich top this group with the maximum of 9 points and they are on the verge of sealing a place in the knockout rounds. The race to join them is headed by Atletico Madrid who have 4 points, Lokomotiv have 2 points and Salzburg 1.

Our focus is on the game in Madrid where Atletico take on Lokomotiv. The teams drew 1-1 in Russia on Matchday 3 and now return to Madrid, scene of Atletico's only win in the group so far, 3-2 against Salzburg on Matchday 2. Lokomotiv have performed with credit, drawing 2-2 in Salzburg and losing 2-1 at home to Bayern. Avoiding defeat will be the name of the game for the visitors but Atletico are in good shape and their 4-0 loss to Bayern in Munich on Matchday 1 is their only defeat this season. At the weekend Atletico were 1-0 winners at home to Barcelona and their La Liga record now comprises of 6 wins, 2 draws and 0 defeats.

I can see goals and over 2.5 is the pick.

 

Bets: Atletico v Lokomotiv, over 2.5 goals at 8/11

 

Group B

 

Group B is still wide open and Monchengaldbach lead the way with 5 points, Shakhtar and Real Madrid both have 4 and Inter Milan are still in contention even though they have earned just 2 points so far. Our focus is on the game between Inter and Real.

On Matchday 3 Real chalked up their first win, 3-2 over Inter. Real had led 2-0 but Inter fought back to square things up only for Real to find the winner 10 minutes from time.

Inter are favourites for this return at 23/20 with the draw at 14/5 and Real are 21/10. You could argue that a draw would be of only marginal benefit to Inter in a group which could well go down to the wire but neither side has really hit their straps this season and at the prices available the odds for a point a piece do look quite appealing.

 

Bets: Inter v Real, match result draw at 28/10

 

 

Group C

 

Manchester City have the full house of 9 points and top this group 3 clear of Porto whilst Olympiacos have 3 points and Marseille have yet to open their account. City have scored exactly 3 goals in all 3 of their matches so far but they have been battling on that front in the Premier League and might be best watched here.

The match result betting for the Marseille v Porto clash is much more wide open but Porto were 3-0 winners when the teams met on Matchday 3 and they get the vote to go in again, albeit to a conservative stake.

 

Bets: Porto to win at 16/10

 

Group D

 

With a full house of 9 points Liverpool are on the verge of qualifying whilst Ajax and Atalanta have 4 points each and Midtjylland have yet to open their account.

Liverpool were surprisingly comfortable 5-0 winners away at Atalanta on Matchday 3 and they have yet to concede in this group. Atalanta had won 4-0 at Midtjylland and drawn 2-2 at Ajax and they know how to entertain. The home sides team selection might be worth monitoring but I can see the scope for plenty of goals and over 3.5 looks on to me.

 

Bets: Liverpool v Atalanta, over 3.5 goals at 9/10
