BettingDiaryThe Travelers Championship slots into its usual place after the US Open and a quality field headed by Bryson Dechambeau tees it up this week. We select 4 players to take on the bookmakers.

The Tournament takes place at the TPC River Highlands, a par 70 layout in Cromwell, Connecticut. Despite being toughened up with a narrowing of fairways a few years ago, players still go low here and holing plenty of birdie cuts will be key to victory. Players also need to adapt to the slightly slower than normal greens.

Bryson Dechambeau played himself into contention at the US Open last week before fading out in the final round. He is 12/1 for the win ahead of defending champion, Dustin Johnson at 14/1, Johnson also faded in the final round of the US Open. Recent winner Patrick Cantlay is 16/1 as is Paul Casey who managed to get himself into the mix last week at Torrey Pines eventually banking a Top 10 spot. Brooks Koepka delivered each way returns last week with his 4th place finish and he is priced at 20/1.

SUGGESTED BETS:

Russell Henley each way at 50/1

Henley found the going tough on Sunday at Torrey Pines fading to finish 13th having being right in contention going into the final round. This course should be better suited to his game and he does have a Top 10 finish 3 years ago and finished just outside the Top 30 last year. If he can put that disappointment of that final round in the US Open behind him I think he will go close this week.

Brian Harman each way at 25/1

I was hoping that I had found one that the bookies had missed, but looking at his price there is no doubt they have noted his course form that has seen 3 Top 10’s in 6 starts including a 3rd place finish back in 2015. He comes into this event in great nick with a Top 10 in his penultimate start and a Top 20 last week in the US Open.

Garrick Higgo each way at 55/1

The South African missed the cut at Torrey Pines, but he had won the week before to break his PGA Tour duck early in his career. He hasn’t played this course before, but has the all round game and I always enjoy having a South African in the staking plan.

Mackenzie Hughes each way at 125/1

I am getting a bigger price on Hughes than I was expecting given he had a Top 3 finish here last year and like Henley also faded in the final round of the US Open eventually finishing 15th. There will be less pressure on him if he gets in contention this week and at a triple figure price he is most definitely in my staking plan.
