BettingDiaryThe PGA National Champions Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida plays host to this weeks PGA Tour event, The Honda Classic. We take a look at the betting and select a 4 ball to take on the bookies.

The PGA National Champions Course plays to a par 70 and is a true test of golf with the winning score often below (-10). Length off the tee is certainly an advantage, but with trouble lurking all around the course, accuracy is also important. There are also loads of bunkers so a good sand game is a major advantage.

Last weeks winner and previous Champion, Justin Thomas isn’t playing this week and Daniel Berger heads the betting at 11/1 ahead of defending champion, Sungjae Im 14/1 and you can get 20/1 Niemann, 22/1 Lee Westwood and 28/1 and better the balance.

SELECTIONS:

Daniel Berger each way at 11/1

A look at his stats shows why Berger is favourite for this event. He won at Pebble Beach a few starts back, he was Top 10 in the Players last week and he also has excellent course form and finished Top 5 last year. He is rightfully top of the betting boards based on those stats.

Lee Westwood each way at 22/1

Westwood delivered solid each way returns for us last week at the Players Championship as he got his second runner-up finish on the PGA Tour in a row. There is a danger that he could be feeling a bit burnt out after two weeks in contention, but the way he is playing I fancy him to keep on rolling and a look at his course form shows a Top 5 last season and going back a few years he also has some high finishes here.

Dylan Frittelli each way at 60/1

I never need an excuse to throw a South African into the betting plan and Frittelli’s name caught my eye last week as he finished inside the Top 25 at the Players Championship. It was an important result for him as he was coming off 3 consecutive missed cuts and although his last 2 starts at this course hasn’t been great, he was 11th here on debut 3 years ago. With his form improving this could be just the course that he comes good on.

Mackenzie Hughes each way at 75/1

Hughes missed the cut last week, but he did have a couple of solid finishes in his previous starts, but what catches my eye was his runner-up finish here last year which came in his 4th visit to the course where previously he had shown no form. He can be a bit streaky, but as with Frittelli I feel that now could be the right time to get on board him at a generous price.
