BettingDiaryThis week’s PGA Tour event is the Memorial Tournament hosted by Jack Nicklaus and it takes place at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Ohio and as is usually the case a quality field takes to the first tee.

Muirfield Village is a part 72 layout, designed by Jack Nicklaus who has had a habit of making changes to the course over the years. Fairways are generous and this favours the long hitters, but there is plenty of trouble for wayward shots and this is a real classical golf course and not just a bombers paradise.

Jon Rahm tops the betting boards at 10/1 ahead of Rory Mcilroy and Jordan Spieth both trading at 14/1. Bryson Dechambeau, Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa are 16/1 and you can bet 18/1 and better the balance.

Looking at the top players in the betting Jon Rahm is the defending Champion and has been in consistent form while Jordan Spieth was second last week and is clearly getting back to his best. Mcilroy is a recent winner on Tour although hasn’t performed that well in his last couple of visits to the Memorial and Justin Thomas has a consistent record here. Bryson Dechambeau was the winner here in 2018 but missed the cut last year and hasn’t been in the greatest form of late.

SUGGESTED BETS:

Tony Finau each way at 28/1

Finau has been a very expensive man to follow over the years as he just doesn’t get over the line, but he is incredibly consistent. He is knocking hard on the door once again and followed a Top 10 two weeks ago with a 20th place finish last week. Looking at his course form he has a couple of Top 10’s to his credit here and not having backed him in some time I am going to pull him into my staking plan this week and hope that he delivers that win.

Billy Horschel each way at 60/1

Horschel is having something of a resurgence in his career this year and has already won on Tour. His last couple of weeks haven't been great, but he did make the cut at the PGA and he also made the cut last week with a Top 40 finish. What interests me though is his course form with his last 3 appearances here reading 9, 7, and 13. Given he was quite out of form in some of those events I think he offers good value this week.

Gary Woodland each way at 60/1

Woodland started the PGA Championship strongly before fading out of contention and he finished Top 15 last week. Looking at his course form it is a bit erratic, but he has a couple of Top 5 finishes in his last 6 appearances here. Woodland strikes me as a player whose game is just coming into the boil again and I am happy to have him on side this week.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout each way at 80/1

Bezuidenhout finished 30th in the PGA Championship after appearing on the leader boards early. He has been consistent of late without really threatening to win and I am hoping that changes this week. This will only be his second appearance at the course, but he made a more than satisfactory debut finishing in the Top 25 here last year.
