Tuesday’s Betway Premiership action sees the title contenders in action so our focus is on Durban City v Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates v Golden Arrows
Durban City v Sundowns
Durban City are having a solid season, currently in fifth position with 35 points from 22 matches. Of their 10 league wins this season 7 have arrived in home games and they have also drawn 2 and lost 2. Goals have been pretty scarce in front of their own supporters, 13 scored and just the 6 conceded and those 2 defeats came against Soweto giants Pirates and Chiefs. Durban City were 1- winners at home to Rickards Bay in their most recent league game and at the weekend they secured a place in the Nedbank Cup final after another 1-0 home win over giant killers Casric Stars.
Coming into this game Downs are back on top of the table with 53 points, 2 points mor than second placed Pirates with both sides having played 22 matches. Last time out Sundowns thrashed Chippa 4-1 in a home fixture on Good Friday and prior to that they saw off Gallants 3-1 in another home game. They have now reeled off 9 league wins in a row and their only league defeat came away to Arrows on the 24th September. The first league meeting this season saw Sundowns run out 3-1 winners in September.
Orlando Pirates v Golden Arrows
Since losing to title rivals Sundowns in February Pirates have taken 13 points from the subsequent 5 league games, most recently crushing TS Galaxy 6-0 away from home. Their most recent home game saw the Bucs drop points, held to a 1-1 draw by Siwelele which opened the door for Sundowns to take over the lead in the title race.
Arrows are in mid table with 28 points and their only defeat in their last 7 league outings came away to Sundowns (2-1) early last month. Since then they won away to Gallants (2-1), drawn at home to Stellenbosch (1-1) and most recently they were 1-0 winners at home to Sekhukhune. They lost the first league meeting with Pirates 3-1 in early November and that was a seventh straight loss to the Bucs whom they haven’t beaten since February 2021.
Tuesday’s Bets:
Sundowns and Pirates have generally been marking each other over recent weeks although that draw at home to Siwelele could prove expensive for Pirates come the end of the season.
We may well see both title contenders win their respective matches and maintain the status quo but I see their opponents both being competitive here and I’m with both sides to score in both of our featured matches.
