The English Premier League draws to a conclusion this week but before the final round of matches on Sunday we have three big games taking place, Monday’s clash between Arsenal and Burnley plus Tuesday’s matches between Bournemouth and Manchester City and Chelsea v Spurs.
Prices quoted are correct at the time of publication but subject to change.
Arsenal v Burnley (Monday)
Arsenal are looking to go 5 points clear of Manchester City at the top of the log ahead of their final match away to Palace at the weekend. City play on Tuesday at Bournemouth and then host Villa but as it stands the title is Arsenal’s to lose. They have won their last 3 league matches, each with a clean sheet, at home to Newcastle and away at West Ham (both 1-0) either side of a 3-0 home win over Fulham. They have also booked their place in the UCL Final where they will come up against PSG on the 30th May.
Burnley’s return to the Championship was confirmed some time ago and had looked likely from the early stages of the season. They have won just the 4 matches, drawing another 9 and with 21 points they are 3 better off than Wolves who are rock bottom. Mike Jackson has taken over as interim boss and Burnley did end a run of 5 straight defeats with a 2-2 draw at home to Villa last time out but since their last win, at Palace in February they have only taken 3 points from last 30 available.
I’m with the small price boost for Arsenal to win both halves.
Bet: Arsenal to win both halves? Yes boosted to 0.82/1 with Sportingbet
Bournemouth v Manchester City (Tuesday)
Prior to the fixtures taking place on Sunday Bournemouth were sixth which as it stands would put them in the Europa League next season. A 1-0 win at Fulham last time out stretched their unbeaten run to 16 EPL matches (8 wins and 8 draws) and the last team to beat them were Arsenal who won 3-2 here in the new year. Victory here, in what is the final home game of the season for coach Andoni Iraola would take Bournemouth within 1 point of Liverpool ahead of their final game of the season at Notts Forest.
City added the FA Cup to the trophy cabinet with a 1- win over Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday. They also won the EFL Cup earlier in the season and now bid to take the title race to the wire. They dropped points in a dramatic 3-3 draw at Everton in their most recent away fixture before bouncing back with a pair of routine 3-0 home wins over Brentford and Palace to keep Arsenal on their toes.
I think this will be a great game and both teams to score in both halves of football will be my play.
Bet: Both teams to score in both halves? Yes at 7/1 with Sportingbet
Chelsea v Spurs (Tuesday)
After losing the FA Cup Final 1-0 to Man City on Saturday Chelsea quickly announced that Xabi Alonso will take over as coach next season. Alonso won’t be involved in the UCL next season, Chelsea can no longer qualify. It’s possible they could be in the Europa or Conference League or even miss out altogether with a trip to Sunderland to come after this. Chelsea drew 1-1 at Liverpool in their most recent EPL fixture, ending a run of 6 straight defeats which included 4 home games, against Newcastle, both Manchester clubs and Notts Forest.
Spurs and West Ham are duking it out to avoid the final relegation spot and with West Ham in action at Newcastle on Sunday we will update this preview and a pick in the early part of the week. Five games under de Zerbi have seen Spurs lose 1-0 at Sunderland before going 4 unbeaten, draws at home to Brighton and most recently Leeds either side of wins at Wolves and Villa.
