Betting tips for the English Premier League matches taking place on Saturday 22nd August including Hull City vs Man United, Everton vs Crystal Palace, Ipswich vs Sunderland, Notts Forest vs Leeds and Brentford vs Spurs
Hull City vs Man United
Hull came up through the Championship play offs and are the bookmakers favourites to head straight back down. There are plenty of new faces, many for undisclosed fees who will need to gel as a team and prove they belong at this level.
United finished fourth last season with big upturn in results after Michael Carrick came in. They have brought in Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £50m and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for £35m and you would expect more transfer activity before the window closes.
We will have to see how Hull settle down but I see United getting off to a winning start here, hopefully in a game of 3 goals or more.

Everton vs Crystal Palace
Everton were mid table last season and they have added Hayden Hackney, Tyrique George, Merlin Rohl, Christian Norgaard and Brennan Johnson to the squad. Barry and Beto remain the two most likely options up front after they both improved in the later part of last season.
There isn’t much in the way of eye catching signings for Palace who sold Maxence Lacroix to Chelsea for £51m in addtion to swapping Brennan Jonson for Dwight McNeil with their opponents here. Coach Glasner oversaw their Europa Conference League trophy win but he is now with Forest and Pierre Sage is the new man in charge and he will be desperate for Adam Wharton, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr to stay with the club.
A difficult one to call in my book and I’ll take my chances with both halves under 1.5 goals.

Ipswich vs Sunderland
Ipswich bounced back to the to flight after finishing as runners up to Coventry in the Championship. Last time they were in the EPL they recruited mainly from the EFL and came up way short, this time they have spent a reported £150m on 12 players with Julio Enciso the most expensive at around £26m. There has also been a change in coach with Gary O'Neil taking over from Kieran McKenna.
Sunderland have been really quiet in the transfer window and look likely to start the season with pretty much the same core group that finished seventh last time around. With Europa League football they will want to add more depth but on the plus side they have managed to hold on to the players who starred last season.
Sunderland finished last season well and with the same pool of players they might well be capable of picking Ipswich off a couple of times.

Notts Forest vs Leeds
Forest changed coach 4 times last season and looked to have finally got the right man in Vitor Pereira. However he has since left and Oliver Glasner, who was at Palace, takes over. Forest struggled for much of last season but pulled clear of relegation trouble and reached the Europa League semi finals. Elliot Anderson will be a big miss in midfield after he joined Man City.
Leeds comfortably avoided a relegation scrap last season, finishing fourteenth and among the new recruits for this campaign is goalkeeper James Trafford who has joined for big money from Man City. They also spent big on central defender Tarik Muharemovic and arguably have a bit more depth to the squad than they had last season.
Another tricky call and once again I'm tempted by no more than a single goal in each half of football.

Brentford vs Spurs
Brentford had a really solid 2025/26 season under Keith Andrews, finishing ninth and just missing out on Europe. Transfer business is headlined by the arrival of Mamadou Sangare from Lens for a club record fee and to date they have managed to hold on to start striker Igor Thiago.
Spurs were just too bad to be true for the vast majority of last season and they only sealed their top flight status on the final day. Roberto De Zerbi was credited with helping them avoid relegation and recruitment has been bold. Although Cristian Romero, Djed Spence and Luka Vuskovic have left for a total of around £140m recruitment is more than double that with Mateus Fernandes from West Ham and Sandro Tonali bolstering the midfield and Jan Paul van Hecke the defence. It seems the spending is set to continue before the transfer window closes.
I fancy goals for both sides here and hopefully one team will pop up with more than one.
