Cycling: Tour de France 2021 Betting Thread was created by Brent Graham
The Tour de France starts on Saturday and this caught me off guard as it is usually the 1st Saturday in July.
Will be having a good look over the coming days but from an outright perspective I like Pogacar although at 17/10 he is a lot shorter than when I backed him last year at 13/1 - not sure I will be getting involved here and will rather look closely at the Green Jersey race in what looks a sprinter heavy tour

I find it increasingly difficult to find decent out rights in Le Tour. I am not tempted by 16/10 Pogacar and the other assorted short odds. This year the GC board is further complicated by the fact that the Olympic road race - which is for climbers with almost 5,000m in 235km - takes place on Saturday 24 July - six days after Le Tour finishes. Several riders are using this race for preparation and only going for stage wins. Lutsenko, 2nd at the Dauphine, Fuglsang, Simon Yates (13/2 for Top 10) etc and probably anyone who loses time early on.
On the points side we have eight sprint stages and two stages where the peloton will probably be together when the intermediate sprint is reached. For the rest you will need to be in the break away. Last year Bennett won quite easily from Sagan. Sagan could not match him in the sprints and Quick-Step just closed down any break Sagan got into without Bennett. I see more of the same this year from Lotto/FDJ/Alpecin and Quick-Step. Personally I do not see Sagan in green this year as he comes off the Giro with the ciclamino and has problems with Bora who are not going to renew his contract so not a happy camper.
Will find an out right or two after the team presentation on Thursday but spent a few beers today on

Real bummer yesterday. Sometimes its not that you lose badly but how you lose. Had the Dutch second half bet - with the nil at half time was a lock. SA runs at 95/1 after 10 overs - the 173 was a breeze. Took Smith early doors e/w in the third round and he went off last night one shot behind- had to catch the place bet at least.
In the same boat as Brent here with MvdP and Alla the wrong way round. Was thinking of giving it a miss today hence the late post but what the heck

Such a chaotic start!
My biggest Cycling Antepost this season was for Ineos to have a rider Podium in each of the 3 Grand Tours @14/1 (so cheering the Empire)
Took earlier prices for yellow on Wout Van Aert @66/1 + Richie Porte @80/1, and then last night added a double of Pogacar for K.O.M + Jonas Vingegaard Top 10 finish @44/1.
(*Now Ewan has Abandoned i took Colbrelli @10/1 for Green Jersey)

Van Aert was selected ahead of Campenaerts for the Olympic ITT and has stated he is targeting tomorrow's ITT. Jumbo let him ride yesterday so he is close enough to the lead to get yellow but, as Brent says, an extra ten seconds would help for that jersey so I also expect him to get the green light to go today.

Needless to say in a Tour of If's But's & Maybe's I took Ion Izagirre for the W...
Becoming an expense trip around France this and its only the first week! But I will soldier on.
Pogi really is putting the hurt on the entire field right now and it was great for him that Formolo showed good legs. Majka & the Italian are going to have their work cut out for them over the rest of the race though. That being said the strange thing about the 2021 Tour is that there is no one strong team keeping things in check (Jumbo losing Gesink en Roglic meant they pullled the bumblebee pack attack tactic whilst Ineos and Astana/MoviS just havent looked strong enough) and its made for a thrilling 1st week.

Kruiswijk @ 100/1 - Aweful Jumbo tour thus far but this is their training ground and Vinegaard and Wout probably wont get protection as Kuss proved yesterday
