Overall a decent weekend for me after the newsletter acca landed at 11/1 - why are you not on my mailing list yet? CLICK HERE TO JOIN THE COMMUNITY

It was a weekend of lose shaves but given the final leg of the acca was Toulouse -22.5 and they won by 23 with a try with 2 minutes to go I cannot complain too much.

The Super Rugby Blog is up and running
with the latest table, betting and a quick betting review of week 8

Here are my projected handicaps

Friday, 11 April 2025
09:05 – Hurricanes -2.5 vs Crusaders
11:35 – Waratahs +9.5 vs Chiefs

Saturday, 12 April 2025
06:35 – Blues -10.5 vs Moana Pasifika
09:05 – Highlanders -8.5 vs Fijian Drua
11:35 – Reds* -7.5 vs Brumbies

SRP caps are out and here is how they compare to mine

09:05 – Hurricanes -2.5 (+0.5) vs Crusaders
11:35 – Waratahs +9.5 (-8.5) vs Chiefs
06:35 – Blues -10.5 (-11.5)vs Moana Pasifika
09:05 – Highlanders -8.5 (-7.5) vs Fijian Drua
11:35 – Reds* -7.5 (-2.5) vs Brumbies

Differences in the Canes and Reds games and a small early double

2 units Canes win Reds -2.5 at 3.09/1 at WSB

This is based purely on my gut feel on prices and as more info becomes available (team news) my opinion could change

Completely agree with you Brent. Have played 3u on Reds -1 and will take canes too. The only reason I haven’t yet is i think money may come for saders, but if not I’ll take ml @ evens for 2.5u

Both Leinster and Glasgow looked great on the weekend. A 15 pt handicap looks big?

Re Champion's Cup QF's

I would take Saints on that minus at home to Castres.
I expect it may be a double digit handicap.
Also hoping for a bigger Toulon + at home.
Toulon are 3rd in T14 and tough at home. Give me +7.5 and I'll play a double with Saints

Hurricanes v Crusaders

Have taken a decent strike on under 59.5.

Crusaders flyhalf is garbage at goal kicking, and think this is about 4-5 points too high. Also expect hurricanes to get some turnovers and will be a tight, physical affair.

Have also taken Hurricanes +1.5 on the handicap.

Unfortunately my bookie doesn’t offer either side by 1-7 (including draw) , but see this being close either way and would take a decent strike on that if offered.

That's a big failing of nz rugby right now. All other top tier nations do it better or much better than us.

The handicaps are out and below I compare Betxchange caps in brackets next to mine

Leinster Rugby -15.5 (-14.5) vs Glasgow Warriors
Bordeaux Bègles 12.5 (-10.5) vs Munster Rugby
Northampton Saints -7.5 (-16.5) vs Castres Olympique
RC Toulon +5.5 (+5.5) vs Toulouse

Big difference is the Saints game - when I think what Castres 2nd team did to Saracens I have to believe there is value you there if, and this is a big if, if they want it

Toulon +5.5 @1.80 2u

I'd put Toulon slightly favourites, this time they won't take Toulouse for granted. Better half pair than ST with Serin starting and no Dupont for ST (plus Capuozzo also out)

In my opinion Toulon will be the value bet here.

I will wait to see the straight victory odds but I might bet on them.

They are stronger than they have been in ages this year and Toulouson look more shaky than ever without Dupont.
Graou definitely wasn't up to the level of a CC contender team this week end , not even a good top 14 scrum half, and N'tamack was invisible/missing in action.

Mola should name Mallia at 10 for this match but probably won't.
It's gonna be a very tough match for Toulouse, especially without Capuozzo who has been there best player lately, and was supposed to be the #2 scrum half ( he accelerated the plays a lot against sale when he officiated at 9 for a few rucks ).

We'll see what the odds are but imo +5.5 is too high, value definitely on Toulon.

I’ve done 1.5 units alternative under 60.5 points at 1.67. I’d take a unit profit.

They would be doing well to score over 8 converted tries and a penalty in the predicted very strong winds. Will keep a keen eye early doors in-play

Hi guys, from Brent, we still got some issues with his blog article so posting on here

WARATAHS vs CHIEFS

Posted 11 April

The lads on THE HANDICAP our rugby betting show were all leaning Chiefs minus and this line looks likely to follow the overseas lead and move out to at least -12.5 Chiefs.

The Tah's have been decent at home but they are not in the Chiefs class in my opinion and this could get ugly.

The points line is 61.5

BET: 4 units Chiefs -10.5 at 9/10 at Betxchange*

*Note we are having issues updating these blogs and this bet was placed on the forum and may have moved

I haven’t tried to post these but will be on the road

BLUES vs MOANA PASIFIKA

Posted 11 April

Moana have had a great couple of weeks but I think they will run out of steam against a Blues side that is coming off a much needed narrow win over the Hurricanes. The home team are showing signs of coming to hand and I think they can beat the handicap of -12.5.

The points line is 65.5 and with conditions good there could be plenty of tries.

I will stick to the handicap though

BET: 4 units Blues -12.5 at 9/10 at Pokerbet

HIGHLANDERS vs DRUA

Posted 11 April

The Highlanders have not really impressed me this season but this looks a strong team and the Drua appear to be fading. The current handicap is -8.5 which is where I set it but as kick off approaches I am gaining confidence on the Highlanders.

The points line is 59.5 and I am not getting involved.

BET: 4 units Highlanders -8.5 at 9/10 at WSB

REDS v BRUMBIES

Posted 11 April

I handicapped this game Reds -7.5 so was surprised when I saw -2.5 on offer and perhaps more surprised that it has not moved much.

I am taking the 5/6 on the -2.5 at Sportingbet

Conditions don’t look too bad in Brisbane although some early rain is forecast so best to heck conditions closer to kick off and leave the 57.5 points line alone for now.

BET: 5 units Reds -2.5 at 5/6 at Sportingbet

It reminds me of the Force match, where they scored 39 points in the first half, then in the second they scored only 10 points and the total didn't arrive.

Horrid. Ref was garbage, and the commentators said as much.

Had money on chiefs +1.5 and the draw. How they didn’t score 10cm from the line under the sticks in the final minutes is beyond me.

Main play this morning was the unders in the Cane's game and I really thought we would be undone with the Crusaders with 13 men , like Chiefie said, a new pair of undies was needed post game !

Tonight the value has gone in the Leinster minus but will still follow on the minus 17.5 , Glasgow can be ruthlessly exposed tonight , conditions are good, ref is Luke Pearce .

In the first game tomorrow despite Moanoa possibly running out of diesel I think they're decent value at plus 15.5 at 4/5 against a disappointing Blues side .

You Tube really is pathetic - was on the road today and got an email saying the show violated gambling policy - they took the show down and referred me to 9:47 in.

At that point The Admiral mentions Charlie Gamble and the Mossman also mentions him, I can only assume this somehow triggered something - what a joke

Just catching up with results - a mixed bag for me with unders in Canes game but Chiefs beaten by Waratahs - wow I never saw that coming

That was close AF for the overs in the Highlanders vs Drua game.

I exepected a pointy second half, and almost bet highlanders first to 30 @ 1.68 and first to 35 @2.80 but finally let it go because the odds dropped at the moment I was trying to place the bet on Winamax... No regrets though because Highlanders usually let me down last season lol.

Champions Cup matches this afternoon are gonna be interesting but i can't wait for Toulon vs Toulouse.

Huge team from Toulouse, apart from Dupont missing, but I would have liked to see Akhi on the bench and some reconfiguration like NTK on 12 and either Mallia or Ramos on 10 ( with Kinghorn or Mallia 15 then ).
N'tamack hasn't been great lately offensively, good defender but too tentative, and Akhi has really been supbar for a few weeks now.

I think he would have been on the bench if Chocobares was fit to start.

Not sure why everyone was rating the Reds that high in the show, to me Brumbies are the best Australian team of these later years.
But I can see it's a derby so it's basically quite random, and Reds looked a strong home team.
But it's been pretty obvious watching the game live that Reds were in big trouble after ACT came back 14-14.
Also odds were still Brumbies 2.30 at 14-21 HT, which was a very good one. edit : it was 1.80 just checked, 2.30 was at 14-14 but still a great odd considering the game's dynamics.

On a side note, can someone explain to me how in Super Rugby teams seems to be able to go from very strong/dominating from a season to another like Crusaders last year or Blues this year.
I know changes happen but without majors changes in their roster you wouldn't expect them to go from great to borderline awful without fransition ?

Real question. You don't often see that in others championships ( apart from MAYBE Premiership which is the most random championship, as far as scores are concerned, to me )

Mixed bag today and need to make the later games count !!

Edinburgh v Bulls.
A lot of confidence with Edinburgh and despite not being as confident I have taken the home side to win at 5/7 , DNB . Main bet under 52.5 points despite it being a day game.

Bordeaux are super strong at home and Munster have their work cut out for them , however they have improved throughout the last 12 months and I think they can remain within the cap , plus 13.5 at 9/10 . Solid strike under 54.5 .
