The PGA Tour heads to Bermuda this week for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship at Port Royal Golf Course, with the event running from 22 to 25 October. Adam Schenk is the defending champion after winning by a stroke at 12 under par last year, and with the favourite, Ben James priced at double figures, the tournament looks wide open.
Port Royal has produced some close finishes in recent years, and with the course so exposed to the wind, anything can happen. We have four selections for the week, including a top 20 bet and an 81.00 shot, and here is our full betting preview.
The Course
Port Royal, in Southampton Parish, is a par 71 measuring around 6,842 yards (6256 meters), which makes it one of the shortest courses on the PGA Tour calendar. It was originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and has hosted this event since 2019. Length off the tee is not a major advantage, but there is plenty of fairway bunkering to avoid, and the coastal setting means the wind can play a big part in how the week unfolds.
From a betting point of view, the winning score can vary a lot from year to year. Over the last five editions it has ranged from 12 under, when Adam Schenk won last year, to 24 under, when Camilo Villegas won in 2023, and three of those five tournaments were decided by a single stroke. That tells us that the leaderboard tends to be tight, which is why we like each-way bets and a top 20 bet. Because the course is short, we are also looking for players who are in good form with their irons and putter, and who have shown they can handle tricky conditions.

At the time of writing, Ben James heads the market at 11.00, with Kevin Yu, Corey Conners and Chris Kirk all at 26.00, and Andrew Novak and Eric Cole at 29.00. With the favourite at such a big price, this looks like a very open event.

Selections:
Ben James at 11.00
Ben James is our first pick of the week, and it is easy to see why. He has finished fifth at the Bank of Utah Championship and second at the Biltmore Championship in his last two tournaments, so he arrives in excellent form. This will be his first time playing at the tournament, which is a small concern, but with that kind of form behind him we are happy to back him each way at 11.00, which means we get a return even if he does not quite get the job done.
Suggested bet: Ben James each way at 11.00
Ben Kohles at 34.00
Kohles comes into this week on the back of a consistent run of form, having finished 17th at the Baycurrent Classic, 13th at the Bank of Utah Championship and 15th at the Biltmore Championship.
Three consecutive top-20 finishes suggest his game is in good shape, and he now heads to a Port Royal layout where accuracy and solid iron play are likely to be rewarded. With the course relatively short and exposed to the wind, it is not a venue that necessarily favours the biggest hitters.
Kohles has been putting himself in the mix regularly in recent weeks, and if he can turn that consistency into a slightly stronger performance, he could well challenge for a place on the leaderboard. At 34.00, he looks an attractive each-way option in what appears to be a wide-open tournament.
Suggested bet: Ben Kohles each way at 34.00.
Seamus Power at 31.00
Power has a good record at this tournament. He won here in 2023 at 19 under, by a single stroke, and has since finished 11th last year and 23rd in 2024, after also finishing 12th in 2022. He also comes into the week in decent form, finishing 21st at the Bank of Utah Championship and 7th at the Biltmore Championship in September. With that course history and a recent top 10 behind him, we think he is worth an each-way bet in a weak field.
Suggested bet: Seamus Power each way at 31.00.
Vince Whaley at 81.00
Whaley looks an interesting outsider this week, particularly given his excellent record at Port Royal. He has finished inside the top 10 in four of his five appearances at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, including eighth in 2023, fifth in 2024 and third last year.
That is an impressive level of consistency at a venue where conditions can be difficult and course knowledge often proves valuable. The exposed layout clearly suits his game, and he has repeatedly shown that he can contend here.
His recent form is less convincing, but with his PGA Tour playing rights for 2027 under pressure, he has plenty to play for. At 81.00, I think his outstanding tournament record makes him worth chancing at a big each-way price.
Suggested bet: Vince Whaley each way at 81.00.
