The PGA Tour gears up for the 5th Signature Event of the season as the players head to the Blue Monster Course at Doral, a course not used on tour in ten years. We look at this week’s golf from a betting angle and select 3 players to take on the bookmakers.

The Course – Blue Monster at Doral Miami

The Blue Monster at Trump National Doral is a Dick Wilson design, comprehensively renovated by Gil Hanse in 2014, stretching to 7,739 yards (7,077 meters) it is a par 72, and is one of the longest layouts on the PGA Tour schedule this season.

Water comes into play on 16 of 18 holes and deep bunkers punish anything less than precise ball-striking from tee to green. The Bermuda fairways offer little roll, so players need genuine length off the tee to attack this course, while the wind in Miami can shift conditions significantly through the day.

The closing stretch is brutal, the 15th plays to a peninsula green surrounded by water, and the iconic 18th is a 473-yard par 4 with a lake running the entire left side and jutting in front of the green.

The greens are undulating Bermuda surfaces that demand accuracy on approaches and a confident putting stroke, missing them in the wrong spot leaves tough up-and-downs.

The Blue Monster hosted 55 PGA Tour events between 1962 and 2016 and has a rich history of rewarding elite ball-strikers, Tiger Woods won here four times, and past champions include the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Dustin Johnson and Adam Scott.

It has most recently been used for LIV Golf events in 2024 and 2025.

Players who combine distance off the tee with strong iron play and solid scrambling will be best equipped to tame the Monster this week.

Selections:

Hideki Matsuyama at 34.00

Matsuyama has been putting in solid results recently, finishing in the top 13 in five of his last eight starts. The other three finishes saw him finish 21st, 27th and 41st. Matsuyama ranks 14th for approach, 13th around the green and 44th for putting so far this season. He is in a good position to contend again this weekend on a course that should suit his game.

Suggested Bet: Hideki Matsuyama each way at 34.00.

Cameron Young at 12.00

Young has been on a remarkable run of form in his last five tournaments. Over that stretch, his worst finish was 25th at the RBC Heritage while his best was a win at the Players Championship. He also secured two more top three finishes at the Masters and the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

He is a long hitter which suits this week's venue, and I will be disappointed if he is not flying the flag for us down the stretch on Sunday.

Suggested Bet: Cameron Young each way at 12.00.

Sahith Theegala at 76.00

Theegala is our outside shot this week.

Although he missed out on taking part at the Masters this year, he has been putting in some really solid results over the last few months. In March he finished 6th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and he has also recorded top 10 finishes at the Houston Open and the Farmers Insurance Open.

He is coming off the back of a 25th-place finish at the Zurich Classic last weekend, where he paired up with Aaron Rai.

Theegala is not shy on distance, and with four gettable par 5s this week he has an edge over many in the field.

Suggested Bet: Sahith Theegala each way at 76.00 and a larger stake on a top 10 finish at 6.00
