Plenty of players are still fighting for their playoff spot, and this week represents another big opportunity to grab crucial FedEx Cup points before the season begins to wind down.

There is no Scottie Scheffler or Rory McIlroy in the field this week, meaning Cameron Young heads the market as the clear favourite. Detroit Golf Club is known as a birdie-fest week in and week out, with the winning score consistently landing in the -20s in recent years. Expect plenty of low scoring and plenty of drama on Sunday afternoon.
Course
Detroit Golf Club is one of the most player-friendly stops on the PGA Tour, with recent winning scores telling you everything you need to know about how the golf course sets up. In the last five editions we have seen winning totals of -22, -18, -24, -26 and -18, which means players need to bring their absolute best red-figure golf to this event to have any chance. The Donald Ross-designed layout is generous off the tee, with wide fairways and receptive greens that reward aggressive play. Players who are happy to attack pins and take on plenty of birdie opportunities always tend to thrive here.
That naturally means putting is going to be absolutely crucial this week. When the leaders are shooting 20-plus under par, the difference between winning and finishing 20th often comes down to who has the hottest putter and who is converting the highest percentage of makeable birdie opportunities. Strokes Gained: Putting is the stat we will be leaning on most heavily this week, and players who can consistently roll it well on the smooth Detroit greens will typically find themselves in the mix come Sunday afternoon. Birdie average is another very useful indicator at a course as scorable as this one.

As mentioned, this week’s field is missing many of the biggest names in the game, with no Scheffler, McIlroy or Rahm teeing it up in Detroit. That opens the door for Cameron Young, who heads the market at 10.00 as the clear favourite. Xander Schauffele and Chris Gotterup share second billing at 17.00, followed by Wyndham Clark, Jackson Koivun and Si Woo Kim all bunched together at 21.00. There is real depth right through the top of the boards, and there should be plenty of value to be found across the each-way markets.

Our first pick of the week is Si Woo Kim at 21.00. Kim is coming off the back of two top-10 finishes on tour. His first came at the Scottish Open, where he ended ninth, and his second a week later at the Open, where he finished in 6th place. He is ranked 2nd on tour for birdie average, and at a course like Detroit Golf Club there will be plenty of birdie opportunities for him to capitalise on. Kim also sits 7th on the FedEx Cup rankings, and we think we could see another really solid performance from him this week at a course perfectly suited to his skill set.

Hideki Matsuyama at 26.00
Our next pick is the 2021 Masters Champion, who is coming into this week off the back of some very promising results. Matsuyama had a solid week at the Open, finishing four under to come home in 14th place. He then followed that up with a strong third-place finish at last weekend’s 3M Open, ending 20 under over the four days. With two consecutive weeks of solid golf under his belt, we think he could definitely roll that momentum into this week at 26.00.

Jacob Bridgeman at 51.00
Our last pick of the week is a bit of an outsider, but someone who has quietly had a stellar season. Bridgeman picked up his first career PGA Tour win this year at the Genesis Invitational, where he held off the field in the final round for his maiden triumph. He then went on to make three of the four cuts at the majors, only missing out at the PGA Championship. He is currently ranked third on tour for Strokes Gained: Putting, one place higher than Scottie Scheffler, which is seriously impressive given this is only his first season on the PGA Tour. He has played decently in his last few tournaments, making all his cuts and finishing 11th at the RBC Canadian Open, and now at a course where putting will be so key, we like him as a bigger-price each-way selection at 51.00.
