RACE 1
CHAMPAGNE PROBLEMS is having her first run for the Dean Smith stable. She has not finished too far off the winner in recent efforts in KZN. She meets the right field and if settled into her new surroundings, she can shed her maiden tag.
MME HUNTRESS is having her first outing for Zietsman Oosthuizen. Her penultimate run when third over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course catches the eye. If taking to the polytrack, she should pose a threat.
SOMBREUIL’S last two starts over this C&D have been good. The cheekpieces seem to have done the trick and she should be involved at the finish.
RACE 2
NORTH STAR is the best bet on the programme. She was running on when third over 1400m on this course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. She has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. She is the stable elect with Richard Fourie aboard, and should take a power of beating.
CITY OF DREAMS was touched off in her last start over 1300m. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. She shed her maiden tag over this C&D and may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
GENOVEFA is the stable companion of the second choice. She drops to 1000m for the first time but is ideally suited to this course. She cannot be discounted with Luyolo Mxothwa aboard.
RACE 3
BAHAMIAN BEAT showed good improvement when second over this C&D last time. He moved up like a winner before getting pipped by stable companion, Smiddyburn. The son of Global View is a progressive type and if confirming his recent improvement, he can go one better in this field.
FROM THE HIP showed good improvement in his local debut over 1400m on this course. He has cracked a good draw of four and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
AETHELWULF has consistent form lines to his name. 4kgs claiming Apprentice Bavish Soodoo steps back into the saddle. He may be hard to peg back.
RACE 4
Trainer Jacques Strydom holds a strong hand in this contest. OUTBACK EXPRESS finished 1.85 lengths behind GARDEN SUN last time. He is 4.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He will love the rise to 2200m and from pole position, he can notch up his second-career victory.
GARDEN SUN was doing his best work late when fifth over 2000m on this course last time. Craig Zackey is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
ARIVIDICIO was running on when third over 1900m on this course last time. He is having his peak run and should be cherry-ripe. Another honest run is expected from him.
RACE 5
BAD MEDICINE is having his first run for the Kelly Mitchley stable. He has won once and finished second once from four starts over this distance. The son of Vercingetorix is the stable elect with Muzi Yeni aboard. If settled into his new surroundings, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
DYNALLEY has good recent form lines to his name. He gets a change of headgear which may do the trick. He may be rewarded for consistency.
ANATOLIAN SILVER’S last two starts have been fair. The booking of Andrew Fortune is a big plus. He jumps from a good draw of four and should be involved at the finish.
Race 6
VIHAAN’S QUEEN finished 2 lengths behind HONORABLE MEMBER last time. She is 6kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She won her only attempt over this distance. If all goes according to plan with the services of 4kgs claiming Apprentice Bavish Soodoo, she may be the one to beat.
HONORABLE MEMBER won a good race over 1600m on this course last time. She set the pace and found more where it matters most. She may have found her confidence with that victory and can follow up.
WALKONTHEWILDSIDE took on male company in her last start over 1600m. She finished 2.05 lengths behind the second choice in her penultimate run. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
RACE 7
IMOKELLY followed up his maiden victory with a good second-place finish over 1400m on this course. He raced from a handy position and tried hard all the way to the line. He has cracked a good draw of four and may be the one to beat with Andrew Fortune aboard.
WORLD PHAROAH was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 1000m on this course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and the combination merit healthy respect.
TRAVEL MASTER is better than his last start as he was reported to be coughing. He has won twice, finished second once and third twice from nine starts over this C&D. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he may be able to get the best out of him.
RACE 8
TRIPPING THUNDER stayed on when fourth over 1200m on this course, in his local debut effort. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will enjoy the rise to 1400m. He meets the right field today and may be the one to beat.
WILD FIG has finished second in his last three starts. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. The son of Fire Away merits healthy respect.
ARLU finished 0.2 lengths behind PYROMANIAC last time. He is 4kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned
