Race 1
WINDS OF CHANGE showed good signs of a form return when third over 1160m on this course last time. He is having his peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. His last victory came under Gavin Lerena and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure once again.
AFRICAN PRIDE is better than his last start in the Grade 3 New Turf Carriers Merchants as he was reported to be fatigued. He shows good speed in his races and on previous form, he may be hard to peg back. He is carded to race on 27 December 2025 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
KAALVOET was not disgraced in the Listed Sophomore Sprint last time. He gets the blinkers fitted which should keep his mind on the task at hand. He is carded to race on 27 December 2025 and his progress in that race will need to be followed.
Race 2
GULF OF AMERICA was carded to race on 20 December but was declared a non-runner after the jockey was dislodged at the start. She would have come on from her last outing over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She meets the right field today and may be the one to beat.
FIERY FROLIC stayed on when third over this C&D last time. If confirming her recent improvement, it would be no surprise to see her in the winner’s enclosure.
POWER OF TIGER’S last two starts over 1000m have been fair. Rachel Venniker takes the 1.5kgs off her back. She is carded to race on 27 December 2025 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 3
TROMBOLINES produced a promising debut effort when second over this C&D. He raced from a prominent position and tried hard all the way to the line. He would have gained from the experience and has a good winning chance. He is carded to race on 30 December 2025 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
LOVABLE stayed on after an awkward start over this C&D on debut. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should give the males a run for their money.
SKY PILOT stayed on when third over 1200m at the Vaal last time. He would have come on from the outing and should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 4
VESUVIO ran a good race when second over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time. He stayed on at the finish but found one too good in the form of Hawkbill. If confirming his recent improvement, he can go one better.
JORDAN found one too good in the form of Douglas Dragon over 2400m last time. He finished 1.3 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
DJ JUNIOR finished 3 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may battle to turn the form around. He would have come on from the outing and should strip much fitter.
Race 5
SPEEDMAN is unbeaten from two starts to date. He won his last start over 1400m at the Vaal easier than the official margin suggests. He should love the rise to 1600m and can remain unbeaten. He is carded to race on 30 December 2025 and his progress in that race will need to be followed.
PAGE BOY ran a fair race over this C&D last time. It must be noted that the second and third place finishers have come out and won since. He is a solid back-up for the Sean Tarry stable.
GUERILLA WARFARE was doing his best work late over 1475m at the Vaal last time. He has won once and finished second once from three starts over this C&D. He is carded to race on 30 December 2025 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 6
FOSTINOVO took the lead at the 200m mark last time before getting caught late by Storm Ahead. He would have come on from the outing and should strip much fitter. Keagan de Melo retains the ride and he can go one better.
PEREGRINE FALCON won a game race over 1200m at the Vaal last time. He finished second in his only attempt over this distance. He makes his stable debut and if not in need of the run, he can follow up.
LEGENDARY rallied late when winning his last start over this distance at the Vaal. He received a three-pound penalty for that victory. The son of William Longsword is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
Race 7
ELEGANTRIX set the pace over 1400m last time, but found one too good in the form of One Eye On Vegas. She has won over this C&D previously. She is carded to race on 28 December 2025 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
FROZEN FANTASY is better than her last start as she was reported to be fatigued. Her penultimate run when third over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course was encouraging. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
CALANTHA is better than her last start in the Non-Black Type WSB Grand Heritage. She has won three times and finished second once from six starts over this C&D. On best form shown, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 8
XENOPHON has top consistent form lines to his credit. He showed speed over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course last time before getting outrun late by Fully Loaded. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. Craig Zackey steps back into the saddle and he is the horse to beat.
IT’S PERSONAL got up where it matters most to win his last start over 1200m on the Inside course. He returns from a well-deserved 12-week break. If not in need of the run, he may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
ESQUEVELLE’S last three starts have been good. He has won once, finished second once and third once from seven starts over this C&D. Despite his big mass of 63kgs, he should have a say.
Race 9
QUIET WINTER followed up her maiden victory with a decent sixth-place finish over this C&D. She raced from a prominent position before tiring late. The daughter of What A Winter is back against her own sex and with Craig Zackey back in the saddle, she may be the one to beat.
VALIEVA has been taking on stronger in recent outings. She has won once and finished third once from four starts over this C&D. She is carded to race on 23 December 2025 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
WHIRLYBIRD has decent recent form lines to her name. She will be staying on at the finish and can earn another cheque. She is carded to race on 23 December 2025 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored
