Race 1
MIDNIGHT FLYER has produced two good runs to date. He stayed on when third over 1000m on this course last time. The son of What A Winter will be ideally suited to this distance. He is a progressive type and should be the horse to beat.
STONE OF SCONE was beaten a length over 1160m on the Standside course last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
ALPHA WORLD is better than his last start as he was reported to be not striding out. He is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. He drops back to 1200m and should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 2
PRINCESS LOLA stayed on at the finish when third over this C&D last time. Her penultimate run when second over 1000m on this course, catches the eye. She takes a drop back in class and may be the horse to side with.
TIME FOR CHARITY has good recent form lines to her name. She challenged strongly over 1000m at the Vaal last time but found one too good in the form of In The Ether. She is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
ISTY METAL finished 0.7 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
Race 3
FISH HAWK produced an encouraging debut effort over 1000m on this course. She understandably raced green, but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The daughter of Fire Away would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1200m. With the natural improvement that is expected, she may be the one to beat.
QUEEN OF PEARLS is an unraced daughter of Hawwaam from the Mike and Mathew de Kock stable with Gavin Lerena in the saddle. She is related to four-time winner White Pearl. If not in need of this outing, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.
BELLA BOOP BOOP was touched off in her last start over this distance at the Vaal. The blinkers and tongue-tie seem to have done the trick. If confirming her recent improvement, she should be right there.
Race 4
ONE EYE ON VEGAS is an unraced son of Buffalo Bill Cody from the Mike and Mathew de Kock stable with Craig Zackey in the saddle. He is related to seven-time winner Belle Of Belize. If not in need of this outing, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.
MONKEY PUZZLE showed improvement in his first outing on the Highveld. He found one too good in the form of Echo Check that day. He will strip much fitter and is one of the leading contenders.
ARIZONA MAGIC ran a fair race on debut over 1000m on this course. He would have gained from the experience and should make the natural progression.
Race 5
WORLD ORDER‘S last three starts under Raymond Danielson have been good. He fought hard when second over 1600m at the Vaal last time. The son of One World can go one better here.
FOLLOW THE MASTER has finished second in his last three starts. He set the pace over 2000m on the Standside course last time but found one too good in the form of Santiago’s Pride. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He is likely to race on the speed once again and may be hard to peg back.
TRURO LEGACY finished 4 lengths behind the top selection on debut. He would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1800m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he can finish in the placings.
Race 6
WITCHING HOUR cost herself winning last time as she hung between the 350m mark and 200m mark. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she will love the rise to 1800m. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and if keeping on a straight line, she should shed her maiden tag.
SPECIAL STAR was her own worst enemy last time as she over raced in the early stages. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. If switching off early, she may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
MADAME POMPADOUR found one too good in the form of Scarlett Heart last time. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride and she is capable of finishing in the placings.
Race 7
TEXAS RED ran a fair race when fourth over 1600m on this course last time. He won his only attempt over this C&D. The 6yo gelding is likely to race on the speed and he may be hard to peg back.
ARGO ALLEY has good recent form lines to his credit. He was touched off in his last start over 1600m on this course. He carries another handy galloping mass of 52kgs and is a big threat.
MELECH finished 4.1 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and he may have to settle for the same result.
Race 8
KARATE KID was running on when second over 1000m on this course last time. He is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. Despite his big mass of 62kgs, he can notch up his fourth-career victory.
ESPINOZA showed good speed when winning his last start over 1000m on the Standside course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won twice from three starts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
GIMMETHEGOODLIFE is a winner of his last two starts. He took the lead at the 300m mark last time and drew clear of the opposition. He takes on stronger, but is in a good space and can bring up the hat- trick.
Race 9
HEMISPHERE rallied late when winning his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. The blinkers have done the trick and he can follow up with another victory.
IT‘S PERSONAL won a good race over this C&D last time. He finished 3 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate outing. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
VIBE SA was in need of his last start over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course. He has won twice and finished second four times from nine starts over this distance. He will strip much fitter and cannot be discounted
