Race 1
SOMMERSTERN won a good race in his last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. Despite taking a keen hold in the early stages, he showed a good turn of foot and won easier than the official margin suggests. The son of Gimmethegreenlight returns from a well-deserved 10-week break. If taking to the polytrack, he may be the one to beat.
MAGMA MAGIC is a winner of his last two starts, the latest of which was over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. His record on this course is an obvious concern, but he is in a good space and can bring up the hat-trick.
TOWN CRIER returned to winning ways over this C&D last time. He received a four-pound penalty for that victory. The son of William Longsword should get a good run in transit from Barrier Two and can follow up.
Race 2
PLEASE BE TRUE stayed on at the finish over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth last time, but found one too good in the form of Chasingtherainbow who has come out and won again since. The son of One World won his only attempt over this distance. Keagan de Melo is booked to ride and if taking to the polytrack, he can notch up his fourth-career victory.
OPEN HIGHWAY hails from the visiting Fanie Bronkhorst stable. He has won twice, finished second twice and third once from seven starts over this distance. He takes a drop back in class and if all went well with his travels, he should pose a threat.
CAPSAICIN showed guts when winning his last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He received a two-pound penalty for that victory. Sean Veale is likely to use his early gate speed to overcome the wide draw and the combination may be hard to peg back.
Race 3
IMILENZEYOKUDUDUMA was doing his best work late when second behind Native Ruler in the Grade 3 Lucky Fish Winter Stakes last time. He ran a cracker when fourth in the Grade 3 Betgames Cup Trial in his penultimate outing. The 7yo gelding should be ideally suited to this distance and if not too far out of his ground turning for home, he can return to winning ways.
FIELD MARSHAL finished 0.6 lengths behind the top selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
LA PULGA is better than his last start in the Grade 3 Betgames Cup Trial. He won his previous two outings over 1800m on the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Summer course. He is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from his wide draw and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
Race 4
AHEAD OF THE FACTS is the top bet on the programme. The son of Futura has had the ideal preparation heading into this race. He was doing his best work late when second in the Listed Lonsdale Stirrup Cup last time. His victory in the Grade 3 New Turf Carriers Western Cape Stayers, three runs ago catches the eye. He has no stamina issues and with Richard Fourie retaining the ride, he should take a power of beating.
MASTER REDOUTE finished 1.3 lengths behind SHOOT THE RAPIDS last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough to turn the form around. He is having his peak run, will be cherry-ripe and may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
SHOOT THE RAPIDS has good recent form to his credit. He set the pace in the Grade 3 Lucky Fish Winter Stakes last time and stayed on to finish third. The son of Erupt runs well for Craig Zackey and the combination merit healthy respect.
Race 5
ALICE B TOKLAS showed a good turn of foot when winning the Listed Amusnet Devon Air Stakes last time. Despite over racing in the early stages, she won going away. The daughter of Master Of My Fate looks to have class about her and if switching off early, she should follow up with another victory.
ROYAL TIARA finished 1.8 lengths behind the top selection last time. She also took a keen hold in the early stages but the manner in which she finished off her race was encouraging. She has cracked a good draw of three and is one of the leading contenders.
OCEAN MISTRESS stayed on when third in the Grade 2 Allan Robertson Championship last time. The daughter of Querari should love the step up to 1400m. She does have a wide draw to overcome but Keagan de Melo knows her well and should give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
Race 6
VIBE CHECK has won his last two starts with ease. He set the pace over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time, found another kick and cruised in. Sean Veale is likely to adopt the same tactics from pole position and he can bring up the hat-trick.
RED SPICE should have finished closer to the winner in the Non-Black Type Race Coast Sales Slipper last time. He returns from a 12-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. The son of Erik The Red is unbeaten under Keagan de Melo and will be looking to keep that record intact.
ST HARRY finished 0.4 lengths behind the second selection last time. He returns from a 22-week break and the obvious concern is his wide draw. However, the son of Harry Angel has class about him and if not too green around the turn, he should give a good account of himself.
Race 7
The 130th renewal of Africa’s richest ever graded stakes race may be dominated by the three-year-olds. VIVA’S LIBERTE comes off a fourth-place finish in the Grade 1 Daily News 2000. He finished 4 lengths behind STAR MAJOR that day and is 4kgs better off at the weights. Last years winning Jockey Craig Zackey will have options from the midfield draw of nine. The son of Vercingetorix should have no issues with the step up to 2200m and with just 53kgs on his back, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
WISH LIST got the better of MINOGUE when winning the Grade 2 Lucky Fish Woolavington 2000 last time. Andrew Fortune knows the dual Grade 1 winning filly well, and she should give the males a run for their money.
NOTE TO SELF will love the rise to 2200m. He gets the services of top Jockey Richard Fourie and cannot be discounted.
Race 8
DOUBLE GRAND SLAM was touched off in the Grade 1 South African Fillies Sprint last time. She was super-impressive when winning the Grade 1 TAB Empress Club Stakes over this distance at Turffontein in her penultimate outing. The daughter of Vercingetorix won this race last year and can defend her title.
QUICKSTEPGAL survived an objection when winning the Grade 2 HKJC World Pool Tibouchina Stakes last time. She ran a cracker when second to Wish List in the Grade 2 WSB Fillies Guineas in her penultimate run. Keagan de Melo is likely to use her early gate speed to overcome the awkward draw of seven and she may be hard to peg back.
MON PETIT CHERIE was unlucky not to have won the Grade 2 HKJC World Pool Tibouchina Stakes last time. She is 3kgs worse off at the weights with the second selection on that outing. The daughter of Rafeef would have come on from the outing and she has cracked a decent draw. With luck in running, she should be competitive.
Race 9
BUFFALO STORM CODY returns from a well-deserved 10-week break. He finished 0.2 lengths behind JERUSALEMA RAIN in the Grade 2 Senor Santa Stakes last time and is 4kgs better off at the weights. The son of Buffalo Bill Cody won his penultimate outing in the Grade 1 TAB Computaform Sprint. The blinkers are re-fitted for this contest and if all went well with his travels, he should run a big race.
TENANGO caught the eye when 1.95 lengths behind Taxi To The Moon in the Grade 2 Golden Horse Sprint last time. He would have come on from the outing and should strip much fitter. He jumps from a handy draw of five and on best form shown, he would not be a shock winner.
CAFE CULTURE ran a cracker when second in the Grade 2 Golden Horse Sprint last time. The 6yo gelding won this race two years ago and with luck in running, he should be involved at the finish.
Race 10
TALK TO THE MASTER was doing his best work at the finish when fifth over 1000m on this course last time. His penultimate run when second in the Non-Black Type Race Coast Sales Big Cap was encouraging. The son of Master Of My Fate will love the rise to 1600m. He should get a good run in transit from Barrier Four and may be the one to side with.
GREEN GATEWAY was given a well-timed ride when winning his last start over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he will enjoy the rise to 1600m. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
MAJOR MASTER ran a fair race over 1400m on the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Winter course last time. He won his penultimate outing over this distance. The son of Master Of My Fate has ability and if taking to this course, he should be involved at the finish.
Race 11
BUTTERCUP BABY took her chances in the Grade 1 South African Fillies Sprint in her penultimate run and the Grade 2 HKJC World Pool Tibouchina Stakes last time. Her last two victories have come on this course. The daughter of What A Winter drops in class and Rachel Venniker takes the 1.5kgs off her back. She is likely to race on the speed from Barrier Three and can cause a surprise.
SERENGETTI SUN finished 1.35 lengths behind MISS WORLD last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. She has cracked a good draw of two which will assist her cause.
MISS WORLD has top consistent form to her credit. She was running on when second over 1000m on the turf last time. The daughter of One World is an honest individual and if taking to the polytrack, she should be involved at the finish.
Race 12
SCARLET STARLET caught the eye when sixth over 1000m on this course last time. She should have finished closer to the winner that day. It must be noted that the horse that finished second has come out and won since. The daughter of Erik The Red will love the rise to 1200m and should strip much fitter. Chad Schofield rides and if getting away to a clean start, she may be the one to close off the meeting.
CLAIR DE LUNE’S last three starts have been good. She showed speed over this distance at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth last time before getting outrun late by Music Of The Night. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
DECEMBER DAWN raced from a handy position over this C&D last time and stayed on to finish third. With a bit of luck from her wide draw, she can finish in the placings
