Race 1
SHINING SUN has shown improvement in each of his efforts to date. The son of Danon Platina was not beaten far over 1400m on the Standside course last time. He drops to 1200m and in this type of field, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
FOREVER CANFORD stayed on when third over this C&D last time. The son of Canford Cliffs is having his peak run and should be cherry-ripe. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
TWO TIGERS raced from just off the pace over this C&D last time and stayed on to finish third. He has cracked pole position and cannot be discounted. He is carded to race on 27 August 2026 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 2
THORN BIRD produced a promising debut effort over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course. She raced from a prominent position and stayed on to finish third. The daughter of Rafeef would have gained from the experience and should love the extra 200m on offer. With the natural improvement that is expected, she may be the one to beat.
RAFEEF‘S QUEEN was a beaten odds-on favourite over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and she may be the one to fill the exacta spot once again.
WITHOUT REMORSE stayed on when second over 1160m on the Standside course last time. She has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. The daughter of Querari can finish in the placings.
Race 3
WHATSDAMATTERWITHU followed up his maiden win with a hard-fought victory over 1160m on the Standside course. He was given a peach of a ride by Calvin Habib that day. It must be noted that the form has been franked. The son of Fire Away is in a good space and can notch up the hat-trick.
ICE DRAGON showed good improvement when second over this distance on the Standside course last time. He showed speed but found one too good in the form of Pivotal Role. If confirming that effort, he may be the one to complete the exacta spot.
CALADRIUS followed up her maiden victory with a creditable fourth-place finish over this distance at the Vaal. She carries a handy galloping mass of 52kgs and should give the males a run for their money.
Race 4
TROMPE L’OEIL showed a good turn of foot when winning his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. The son of Gimmethegreenlight faces his toughest test to date but he looks to have class about him. He carries a handy galloping mass of 54.5kgs and if getting away on terms, he should take a power of beating.
TIME IS PRECIOUS is better than his last start in the Grade 1 Gold Medallion. He returns from a 14-week break which would have done him the world of good. If not in need of the outing, he should give a good account of himself.
IT‘S PERSONAL won a good race over this distance on the Standside course last time. He races in the same grade and merits healthy respect.
Race 5
WINTER IN AUCKLAND‘S last two starts on the Highveld have been good. She was reported to be fatigued after her last outing. The daughter of What A Winter is having her peak effort and despite carrying top weight, she should be the one to beat.
POINTER is better than her last start as she raced wide around the turn. Her two starts prior to that outing were good. She jumps from a handy draw of four and is one of the leading contenders.
JACK‘S LEGACY made the expected natural improvement when winning her last start over 1160m on the Standside course. The daughter of Buffalo Bill Cody takes on stronger, but she has scope and may be up to the task at hand.
Race 6
ANCHORAGE is better than her last start on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She won her only attempt over this C&D. The booking of Gavin Lerena is a big plus and on best form shown, she may be the one to beat.
BRIGHT AND BRAZEN returns from an 18-week break which would have done her the world of good. She has won three times and finished second once from five starts over this C&D. On her previous form, she can go close.
RIFLE QUEEN is better than her last start over 1160m on the Standside course. She won her only attempt over this C&D. The 18-week break may have been what she needed. If reproducing her earlier form, she should be hard to peg back.
Race 7
QUANTUM THEORY showed some signs of a form return in the Listed HKIR In December Umngeni Handicap last time. He should have gone closer that day. He has won twice and finished second twice from six starts over this distance. With a bit of luck in running, he should be too good for this field.
BJORN IRONSIDE is better than his last start in the Non-Black Type Race Coast Sales Big Cap. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. On his previous form, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
KARATE KID stayed on when fifth over 1000m on the Standside course last time. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from as many starts on this course. The son of Erupt always gives of his best and merits obvious consideration.
Race 8
SOCIAL GRACES followed up her debut victory with a good third-place finish over 1100m on the Standside course. She raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Rafeef should love the rise to 1200m. She looks to have ability and may be the one to beat.
NAVASEVEN returns from a 21- week break and is having his first outing for Tony Peter. He gets a change of headgear and if settled into his new surroundings, he should have improvement to come.
LANZAROTE took her chances in the Grade 3 TAB Pretty Polly Stakes last time. She returns from an 18-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. If getting away on terms, she can finish in the placings.
Race 9
REPETITION is better than his last two starts. He was victorious over 2400m at the Vaal, three runs ago. Trent Mayhew knows him well and if putting his best foot forward, he can win a race of this nature.
ORANGE COUNTY is better than his last start over 1600m. His form prior to that outing was consistent. Gavin Lerena steps back into the saddle and he is a big runner.
KUDZU‘S last two starts have been fair. He has won twice and finished third once from five starts over this C&D. He is likely to race on the pace and may be hard to peg back with Rachel Venniker taking the 1.5kgs off his back
