Round 15 of the United Rugby Championship is upon us and in this blog we will keep an eye on all things betting related and any bets placed will be posted as the week unwinds.

Model Testing

I am testing a rugby betting model for a member of the Goodforthegame community. The aim of my testing is to improve the model and early indications are it has potential although should not be followed religiously yet.

In some cases I will follow the models picks and in others go with my own while sharing the models  predictions.

Max Bet will be 5 units.

LEAGUE TABLE & OUTRIGHT BETTING UPDATE

With just three rounds remaining after this weekend and the top eight teams qualifying for the playoffs, the URC season is entering a critical phase both at the top and around the cutoff line.

At the summit, the Glasgow Warriors (55 pts) and DHL Stormers (51 pts) have created a gap and are well positioned for home quarter-finals. In the outright market, Glasgow are priced at 29/10 and the Stormers at 49/10.

Ulster (47 pts) and Leinster (46 pts) round out the top four, with Leinster still installed as favourites at 1/1, despite sitting 4th, underlining the respect the market has for their squad depth and playoff pedigree. Ulster are available at 14/1.

The battle for the remaining playoff spots is extremely tight. The Lions (43 pts and 55/2)) occupy 5th, with Cardiff (41 pts, 149/1) and Munster (41 pts, 12/1) just behind, while the Bulls (40 pts. Just under 7/1) currently hold the final qualifying position in 8th.

Crucially, Connacht (39 pts) are just one point outside the top eight and very much in the mix, with the market giving them a distant 65/1 shot.

Outside the playoff positions, the Sharks (33 pts) face an uphill battle to qualify, currently priced at 35/2, while teams further down the standings are effectively out of contention.

With so little separating the teams around the playoff line, every point  and particularly bonus points will be vital over the closing rounds.
