Race 1

This is a weak work riders Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is BILINGUAL from the St John Gray stable. She stayed on when second over this distance at the Vaal last time. Tom Lukhele is riding well and she may be the one to side with in this field.

PANTHERA UNCIA finished 3.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is only 0.5kgs better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned.

RADIANT HEAT ran a fair race when fourth over this distance at the Vaal last time. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. If getting away to a clean start, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 2

WINTER IN PARIS showed improvement when second over this distance at the Vaal last time. She showed good speed, but found one too good in the form of Lady Of Memphis. The daughter of What A Winter is drawn on the outside and if confirming her recent improvement, she should go one better in this field.

TAKE YOUR PLACE is better than her last start over 1200m at the Vaal. She returns from a 15-week break which may have done her the world of good. Piere Strydom retains the ride which is encouraging. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

CHILLI MARMALADE has improved in her last two starts. She should have finished closer to the winner last time as she hung outwards in the final 200m. If keeping on a straight line, she would not be a shock winner.

Race 3

MOUNT DARWIN stayed on when fourth in his last start over this C&D. He is having his peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. The son of Ideal World takes a drop in class and he may be the one to side with.

BIRTHRIGHT has consistent form lines to his credit. He set the pace over this C&D last time, but found one too good in the form of Hawkbill. Apprentice Nirvan Nastili takes the 2.5kgs off his back and the combination may be hard to peg back.

SUPREME DANCE‘S last two starts have been fair. He takes a drop in class and should strip much fitter. Marco van Rensburg is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

Race 4

PANNING GOLD followed up his maiden victory with a good third-place finish over this C&D. He jumped inwards when leaving the start, but stayed on at the business end. The son of Heavenly Blue takes a drop in class and from his good draw of three, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

ROMAN‘S REVENGE followed up his maiden win with an impressive victory over 1700m at the Vaal. He takes a step up in class but is in a good space, and can bring up the hat-trick.

ONLY A POET raced from a handy position over 1800m last time, moved up before getting caught late by Dimako’s Jet. He will strip much fitter and if confirming his recent improvement, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 5

HEATHER‘S BOY is the best bet on the programme. He showed good guts and determination when winning his last start over this C&D. It must be noted that Bacchus has come out and won since. The son of Rafeef is progressive and looks to have plenty of class. He jumps from pole position and should remain unbeaten.

TRUTH has been disappointing since his first two career victories on this course. He has been gelded which may have done the trick. Gavin Lerena steps back into the saddle and he should make a form return.

GUY GIBSON‘S last two starts have been fair. His best form has been with the blinkers fitted. If putting his best foot forward, he would not be a shock winner.

Race 6

WOLF MOUNTAIN was touched off in the Grade 3 Betway Graham Beck Stakes last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Buffalo Bill Cody is the class horse in this contest and he should take a power of beating.

CHOISAANADA should have finished closer to the winner last time. He was super-impressive when winning his maiden over 1450m on the Inside course in his penultimate run. The son of Querari has ability and may be the one to fill the exacta spot.

GREY JET finished strongly when winning on debut over 1160m on this course. The son of Danon Platina should love the rise in distance. He takes on much stronger, but could be anything and may be up to the task at hand.

Race 7

QUEEN OF LOVE is better than her last start in the Grade 3 HSH Princess Charlene Starling Stakes. She fought hard for her last victory over 1450m on the Inside course. The daughter of Rafeef is the best- weighted runner in this contest. If putting her best foot forward, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

DUENNA showed signs of needing her last start on the Inside course. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. On best form shown, she should fight out the finish.

CEUTA was given a well timed ride when winning her last start over 1600m at the Vaal. She returns from a well-deserved 18-week break. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride which is encouraging. If not in need of this outing, she should give a good account of herself.

Race 8

BOOM BOOM took the lead at the 400m mark last time, but was caught late. She won her only attempt over this C&D. The daughter of Erupt takes a drop in class and from her good draw of three, she can notch up her fourth-career victory.

PALACE DANCER is lightly raced with good form lines to her credit. She stayed on when fourth over this C&D last time. With a bit of luck from her awkward draw of eight, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

TRIED AND TRUE is a winner of her last two starts, the latest of which was over 1600m on this course. She received a seven-pound penalty for that victory. She takes on stronger, but is in a good space and can bring up the hat-trick.

Race 9

WHAT A TIGER‘S last two starts have been good. He showed good speed over 1100m at the Vaal last time, before getting outrun late by King Of Venus. He received a three-pound penalty for that effort. Despite top weight, he should be hard to peg back in this contest.

PENNYSYLVANIA was an easy winner when shedding his maiden tag over 1200m at the Vaal last time. The son of Lancaster Bomber takes on stronger, but he is progressive and should be up to the task at hand.

BAY EMPIRE is better than his last start over 1450m. He returns from a 13-week break, during which time he was gelded. He won his debut with ease over this C&D and if fit, he may be the one to cause the upset
