Race 1
Eight of the nine runners in this contest are unraced and the betting market will be the best guide. FOLLOW YOUR HEART is a son of Master Of My Fate from the Candice Bass-Robinson stable with Aldo Domeyer in the saddle. He is related to three-time winner Marshmallow. If not too green, he should start his career on a positive note.
SPACEBOUND hails from the Peter Muscutt stable and he is a son of Declarationofpeace. He is related to multiple winners including Veronica Mars and Mercury Rising. Richard Fourie rides and he should give a good account of himself.
BETWEEN THE LINES is the horse with the experience on her side. She was disappointing in the Non-Black Type Flash Summer Coronation Plate last time. It must be noted that Wild Wild Green has come out and won since. If finding the form of her debut run, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 2
INDIGENOUS produced a promising debut effort over 1000m on this course. He lost a length leaving the start, understandably raced green but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of Danon Platina would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1200m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should take a power of beating.
GOOD FOR YOU has finished third in both his efforts over 1000m to date. The manner in which he has finished off those races suggests that he will love the rise to 1200m. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
HEDRIVESMECRAZY stayed on when third over 1000m on this course on debut. He would have come on from the run and over the extra 200m, he should make the natural progression.
Race 3
LHASA challenged strongly in her last start over this C&D, but found one too good in the form of Princessontherun. The daughter of Potala Palace is a progressive type and in this field, she can go one better.
CAPE CAPTAIN showed good improvement in her last start over this C&D. She raced from just off the pace last time and stayed on nicely to finish third. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and there should be more to come from her.
ALESSIA ASHEVILLE finished 1.25 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. The daughter of Erupt should earn another cheque for her patrons.
Race 4
BRIGHT GOLD’S last two starts have been good. She was her own worst enemy over this C&D last time, but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. It must be noted that Give Me Everything has come out and won again since. If Aldo Domeyer is able to switch her off early, she should be involved at the finish.
WEHAVEASITUATION has decent recent form lines to her credit. It must be noted that the horse that finished second in her last outing has come out and won since. If jumping on terms, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
BLIND FAITH ran a fair race when fourth against winners in her last start over 1400m on this course. The 6yo mare is back against maiden company and she should finish in the placings from her good draw of two.
Race 5
VICTOR HUGO is lightly raced with good form lines to his credit. He took the lead at the 150m mark last time before getting outrun late by It Is My Time. The son of Danon Platina gets the blinkers fitted which should keep his mind on the task at hand. From his good draw of four, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
KONNICHIWA finished 0.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
SMART HORSE finished 1.9 lengths behind the top selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result. The son of Heavenly Blue is coming along the right way and he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 6
UNICORN ALERT has fair consistent form lines to his credit. The son of Vercingetorix has dropped in the ratings and takes a slight drop in class. JP van der Merwe knows him well and in this field, he can return to winning ways.
SECRET PASSAGE won a good race when shedding his maiden tag over 1200m last time. He raced from just off the pace and drew off late. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The son of Futura takes on stronger, but he has scope and should be up to the task at hand.
IN THE BAG has fair form lines since winning his maiden. He showed signs of needing his last outing and would have come on from the run. From his good draw of two, he should be involved at the finish.
Race 7
BARATHEON is better than his last start in the Grade 1 WSB Cape Town Met. He was not disgraced in his previous two efforts over 1800m. The 6yo gelding has won over this distance previously. Luyolo Mxothwa is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him.
HOLDING THUMBS’ last three starts have been good. He found one too good in the form of King Pelles in the Grade 3 Glorious Goodwood Chairman’s Cup last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
WITHOUT QUESTION is better than his last start in the Grade 2 Anthonij Rupert Wyne Premier Trophy. He has finished third in both his efforts over this C&D. Richard Fourie steps back into the saddle and the combination cannot be ignored.
Race 8
DECEMBER DAWN is a winner of her last three starts. Despite a slow start last time, the manner in which she quickened up and drew clear of the opposition was eye-catching. The daughter of Master Of My Fate takes a rise in class, but she may still be ahead of the handicapper and can win again.
DARK WINTER is better than her last start over 1000m on this course. It must be noted that Tenango has come out and won again since. She drops back in class and on best form shown, she should pose a threat.
SHESGOTCLASS was an easy winner when shedding her maiden tag over this C&D. The daughter of Querari takes on stronger, but she is a progressive type and should be up to the task at hand.
Race 9
TRIPPI’S SILK was touched off in his last start over 1400m on this course. He took the lead at the 250m mark before getting caught late by Tsunami Warning. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. Despite his big mass of 62.5kgs, he can go one better.
AUGUSTA BLUE is better than his last start over this C&D. He drops back to Class 5 and on his penultimate run, he should be involved at the finish.
LOVERS LANE ran on strongly when fourth over this C&D last time. He has won once, finished second once and third once from five starts over this distance. The son of Crusade can earn another cheque.
Race 10
EMPIRE STATE’S last three starts have been good. He jumped inwards leaving the start last time, but the manner in which he finished off his race was eye-catching. The son of Rafeef is the form horse in this contest and with Aldo Domeyer back in the saddle, he should close off the meeting.
COUNTER ATTACK is better than his last start over 1200m on this course. He is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. The son of Querari is a solid back-up for the Candice Bass-Robinson stable.
AFRICAN PRINCE was in need of his comeback run over 1200m on this course. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. He has scope and there should be improvement to come from him
