Race 1
READY TO CHARGE followed up his debut victory with a good third-place finish over 1160m at Turffontein. The manner in which he finished off his race that day was encouraging. It must be noted that the horse that finished second has come out and won a Grade 2 since. Lyle Hewitson does duty from a good draw of four and if not too green around the turn, he may be the one to beat.
OUTLAW KING was a tad disappointing in the Non-Black Type Bloodstock SA Sales Cup (C&G) last time. He has won twice and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
JUST BE LEKKER is unbeaten from two starts, the latest of which was over this distance. The manner in which she drew clear of the opposition last time was eye- catching. She faces her toughest test to date, but she is above average and should be up to the task at hand.
Race 2
ORIENTAL BOUQUET is one of the better bets on today’s card. She ran a very good race when second in the Non-Black Type Bloodstock SA Sales Cup (Fillies) last time. She should have won that day as she shifted away from the crop in the closing stages. It must be noted that the form has been franked. The daughter of Danon Platina won on debut over this distance and if keeping on a straight line, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
MOVING IN finished 1.7 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.
LEAVING LAS VEGAS ran a fair race in the Grade 2 WSB SA Fillies Nursery last time. She returns from a 13-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. The Tony Peter stable are in red-hot form and from her good draw of three, she cannot be ignored.
Race 3
QUASIFORSURE moved up like a winner in the Grade 3 Hollywoodbets Dolphins Cup Trial last time, but found one too good in the form of Winchester Mansion who came out and won the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Durban July. The son of Quasillo will love the drop back to the mile as he has won once, finished second once and third once from as many starts over the distance. He is likely to be switched off near the rear of the field from his wide draw and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
LORD WILLIAM ran a creditable race in the Grade 3 SplashOut 2200 last time. He finished 1 length behind the top choice in his penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
CAPTAIN FONTANE has very good consistent form lines to his credit. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. The son of Captain Al always gives of his best and merits healthy respect.
Race 4
BLESS MY STARS ran a very good race when third in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Durban July last time. She lost a length at the start, but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight finished second in her only attempt over this distance. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and she can notch up her fifth career victory.
SILVER DARLING is better than her last start in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Durban July as the jockey reported something to be amiss. She has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. On best form shown, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
DAWNOFANEWDAY has good consistent form lines to her credit. She was running on when second in the Grade 2 Track And Ball Oaks last time. The daughter of Futura always gives of her best and merits obvious inclusion.
Race 5
LUCKY LAD is unbeaten from four starts. He was super-impressive when winning the Grade 1 Gold Medallion last time. He quickened up well and was geared down in the closing stages. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Gimmethegreenlight should have no issues with the rise to the mile and if all goes according to plan, he should keep his unbeaten record intact.
SANDRINGHAM SUMMIT‘S victory in the Grade 2 Durban Golden Horseshoe was eye-catching. He was settled at the rear of the field and got up where it matters most after having to switch at a crucial stage in the straight. He will be at home over the mile and with luck in running, he should pose a threat.
MAIN DEFENDER is unbeaten from three starts. He took the lead at the 200m mark in the Non-Black Type BSA Sales Cup last time, quickened up well and won with a ton in hand. This is his toughest test to date, but he has the benefit of a handy draw and he merits healthy respect
Race 6
GIMME A PRINCE is the best bet on the programme. He was given a peach of a ride when winning the Grade 1 Golden Horse Sprint last time. The son of Gimmethegreenlight is having his peak run today. He has finished second on this course and from his good draw of four, he should take a power of beating.
ISIVUNGUVUNGU was an easy winner of his last start over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He won the Grade 1 Jonsson Workwear Computaform Sprint in his penultimate start. The son of What A Winter is at his best over 1000m, but he is classy and merits healthy respect.
SURJAY finished 0.8 lengths behind GLADATORIAN in the Grade 2 Post Merchants last time. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
Race 7
FUTURE PEARL was an easy winner of the Grade 3 DStv Gold Vase last time. The manner in which he quickened up and drew clear of the opposition was eye-catching. The son of Futura has won over this distance in the past. He has cracked a good draw of three and should follow up with another victory.
SHANGANI is better than his last two starts. He won this race last year. The son of Soft Falling Rain stays all day and on best form shown, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
ARAGOSTA finished 1.7 lengths behind CRIMSON KING last time. He is 5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He does have a wide draw to contest with, but gets the services of S’manga Khumalo who will give him all the necessary assistance.
Race 8
ZAPATILLAS ran a good race when third in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge last time. The stable opted to miss the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Durban July and go straight for this race which may be ideal. He has cracked a good draw of two and if all went well with his travels, he can notch up his fourth career victory.
SEE IT AGAIN moved up well in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Durban July, fought hard but found one too good in the form of Winchester Mansion. If that race has not taken too much out of him, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
PRINCESS CALLA won a good race in the Grade 1 Ridgemont Garden Province Stakes last time. She took the lead at the 300m mark and won with a ton in hand. The daughter of Flower Alley is at her best over shorter, but she is classy and cannot be ignored
Race 9
EGYPTIAN MAU ran a good race when third in the Grade 2 Zulu Kingdom Explorer Golden Slipper last time. Despite racing wide around the turn, the manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. The daughter of Fire Away will be at home over the mile and Richard Fourie may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
RASCOVA stayed on at the finish in the race referred to above, but she found one too good in the form of Mrs Geriatrix. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber is having her peak run today and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
DISTANT WINTER finished 1.45 lengths behind the second selection last time. The daughter of What A Winter will love the rise to the mile and with Aldo Domeyer back in the saddle, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 10
IPHIKO is better than her last start over 1200m. She has won five times, finished second once and third twice from eleven starts over this distance. The daughter of Trippi takes a drop-in class. She is drawn wide but if getting away to a clean start, she should use her speed to get across without using up too much energy.
AFRICAN SKYLINE finished 1.3 lengths behind MAGIC TATTOO last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He finished second in his only attempt on this course and always gives of his best.
PRAY FOR RAIN won a good race in his first run for the Carl Hewitson stable. He finished third in his only attempt over this C&D. The son of Soft Falling Rain is in a good space and can follow up from a good draw of four.
