CURRIE CUP FINAL: LIONS V SHARKS
This should be a cracking match but having seemingly “grabbed the value” last week taking Lions -10.5 (started-14.5) and Bulls -3.5 (started -6.5) I must admit my confidence is a bit shot.
The handicap has been stable at Lions -3.5 all week which is exactly where I capped it.
I am going to wait for points lines before getting any bets down and in the meantime here are the teams.
Lions: 15 Quan Horn, 14 Rabz Maxwane, 13 Rynhardt Jonker, 12 Marius Louw, 11 Tapiwa Mafura, 10 Sanele Nohamba, 9 Nico Steyn, 8 Jarod Cairns, 7 Ruan Venter, 6 Renzo du Plessis, 5 Darrien Landsberg, 4 Ruben Schoeman, 3 Asenathi Ntlabakanye, 2 Jaco Visagie (captain), 1 Morgan Naude.
Replacements: 16 Morne Brandon, 17 Juan Schoeman, 18 Conrad van Vuuren, 19 Siba Qoma, 20 Raynard Roets, 21 JC Pretorius, 22 Kade Wolhuter, 23 Kelly Mpeku
Sharks: 15 Jordan Hendrikse, 14 Eduan Keyter, 13 Jurenzo Julius, 12 Andre Esterhuizen, 11 Ethan Hooker, 10 Siya Masuku, 9 Bradley Davids, 8 Emmanuel Tshituka, 7 Vincent Tshituka (captain), 6 James Venter, 5 Emile van Heerden, 4 Corne’ Rahl, 3 Hanro Jacobs, 2 Fez Mbatha, 1 Ntuthuko Mchunu.
Replacements: 16 Dylan Richardson, 17 Trevor Nyakane, 18 Mawande Mdanda, 19 Jason Jenkins, 20 Gerbrandt Grobler, 21 Tinotenda Mavesere, 22 Tian Meyer, 23 Lionel Cronje.
Update: Posted 20 september 18h01
Ok I have my 1st bet for the Currie Cup Final. It is a speculative play but at a nice price.
JC Pretorius is always a dangerous player coming off the bench and although he is a flank like Renzo Du Plessis he sometimes marshalls the back of the maul.
He is 18/1 to score the Lions last try.
The points line has been set at 57.5, more to follow.
BET: 0.5 unit JC Pretorius Lions last try at 18/1 at Pokerbet
Update: 21 September 10h39
It is cold and rainy in Joburg with some wind. Points line is 55.5 and I think its an unders game but going to think on it over a late breakfast.
Update: 21 September 13h05
The weather has lifted slightly but still some drizzle and wind about.
I like the under 55.5 but fancy 3 pointers will be taken given its a final and conditions and under 6.5 tries is the play.
The price moved to 8/10 as I was placing the bet and switching to unders on Lions points as I think conditions will favour Sharks.
BET: 4 units Lions under 30.5 points at 17/20 at Sportingbet*

URC WEEK 1
The games involving South African teams have been postponed due to the Currie Cup final and we will post thoughts and bets on the remaining week 1 matches below.
BENETTON V SCARLETS AND ULSTER V GLASGOW
Posted 21 September 20h00
Apologies for the late post but having serious computer problems.
I am not oing to get too involved in the final games as will be catching a nap ahead of the Bok game.
I will take a small double for an interest.
Ulster have a good home record against Glasgow and points often flow when Benetton and the Scarlets meet.
BET: 2 units double over 50.5 Benetton game onto Ulster win at 3/1 at WSB
CARDIFF V ZEBRE
Posted 20 september 09h13
This handicap opened -15.5 Cardiff and is sitting anywhere from -18.5 to -19.5 depending on your bookie.
Looking at the forecast it looks like we will have some rain about at game time and also during the late afternoon.
The last meeting between the sides finished 22-22 in Italy last year.
Given the expected conditions I am looking at an unders play.
BET: 3 units under 53.5 points at 1/1 at Betxchange
EDINBURGH V LEINSTER
Posted 20 September 09h39
This should be a great opening match with both teams able to call on International players.
The handicap opened +8.5 Edinburgh and is now +6.5 as some money has come for the home team.
The points line is 47.5 and overs would have arrived in 4 of the last 5 meetings between the sides at this quote – be careful though humidity levels are forecast to be in the high 90’s.
I think this is going to be a tight game and was looking for a quote on either team by 7 or less but couldn’t find anything at my preferred bookies.
I am expecting a big season from Edinburgh and I think they are worth a bet on the board.
BET: 2 units Edinburgh win at 9/4 at Boylesports
DRAGONS V OSPREYS
Posted 20 September 10h09
The handicap has been steady at Dragons +6.5 all week but it was a post from forum stalwart Pablo that caught my eye.
He took under 48.5 earlier in the week as he expected a low scoring derby and the conditions don’t look great.
The line has come in to 46.5 and I am jumping on board.
BET: 3 units under 46.5 points at 87/100 at Pokerbet*

MUNSTER v CONNACHT
Posted 21 September 10h44
I don't have a strong feel for this game where Munster are currently -10.5.
The weather forecast suggests some rain about in the evening and that is enough to steer me to the under 49.5 which would have arrived in 8 of the last 9 meetings between the side (not not the last one)
BET: 3 units under 49.5 at 0.97/1 at Betxchange
