Race 1

BLIZZARD SNOW showed good speed over this distance at the Vaal last time, but was caught late by His Lordship. The daughter of Erupt is a progressive type and Gavin Lerena may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

JILTED should have finished closer to the winner last time as she hung in the final 300m. Muzi Yeni is booked to ride and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

WEARINGOFTHEGREEN is an unraced daughter of Kingman from the Mike de Kock stable with Kabelo Matsunyane booked to ride. She was due to run last week Saturday but was withdrawn at the start. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.

Race 2

INSPECTOR JAMES’ last start can be ignored as he took an awkward stride leaving the start and the jockey was dislodged. His penultimate run when second over 1000m on the Standside course was quite eye-catching. Piere Strydom is booked to ride and if getting away to a clean start, he should take a power of beating.

HAIR TRIGGER showed signs of needing his first run as a gelding. He would have come on from the outing and should strip much fitter. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

SPY STORY ran a fair race over this distance at the Vaal last time. He would have come on from the run and should strip fitter. There should be improvement to come from the son of Bezrin.

Race 3

FIREBURST should have finished closer to the winner last time as she was inconvenienced before turning for home. The daughter of Fire Away should love the rise to the mile. From her good draw of four, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

GLAMOROUS LADY has shown improvement in each of her races to date. She stayed on when second over this C&D last time. If getting away to a clean start, she should go one better.

QUELLO CHE finished 1.25 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.

Race 4

ICHACHA has produced two good runs to date. He moved up like a winner over 1450m last time, but found one too good in the form of Heather’s Boy. The son of Danon Platina is a progressive type and should love the rise to the mile. From his good draw of four, he may be the one to side with.

OMBUDSMAN’S last two starts with the blinkers fitted have been good. He steps up to the mile and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should pose a massive threat.

PANNING GOLD produced good form lines before given a 10-week break. His best career effort came over this C&D and he will be mowing down the frontrunners.

Race 5

BREEZE OVER is better than his last start in the Grade 3 World Pool Gold Cup. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has finished second three times from as many starts over this C&D. He is the class horse in this contest and can notch up his fourth-career victory.

PRIME EXAMPLE stayed on when third over this C&D last time. He is in a good space and is one of the leading contenders.

TWENTY DRACHMA’S finished 3.4 lengths behind PRIME EXAMPLE last time. He is 4kgs better off at the weights today which is enough for the tables to be turned. However, PRIME EXAMPLE won easier than the official margin suggests and may still have the upper hand.

Race 6

WOLF MOUNTAIN ran a good race when second over 1450m on this course last time. He raced from a handy position before getting caught late by Run For Cover. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. From pole position, he should be the one to beat.

KEY NEWS stayed on when third over 1160m on the Standside course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He has been gelded since that outing which may have done the trick.

PRINCE OF KILDARE was an easy winner of his last start over this distance at the Vaal. He received an eight-pound penalty for that victory. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 7

DOITWITHDIAMONDS set the pace over 1600m last time, but was outrun late by Across The Pond. The daughter of Silvano meets a similar line-up this afternoon and if keeping on a straight line, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

PRINCESS ILARIA finished 3.75 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

FUTURE DATE was an easy winner when shedding her maiden tag over 1600m on the Vaal Classic course last time. She takes on stronger, but has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.

Race 8

EIFFEL TOWER found betting support when showing signs of a form return in his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. He has finished second once and third once from as many starts on this course. The son of Potala Palace takes a drop in class and it is encouraging that Muzi Yeni sticks with the ride. He is capable of returning to winning ways in this field.

WILLOW EXPRESS ran on powerfully when winning his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. Two of his six career victories have come on this course. Piere Strydom takes the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

CARE TAKER found betting support when winning his last start over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course. He gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Nirvan Nastili which will assist his cause. With luck in running, he can follow up.

Race 9

APACHE SON is a winner of his last two starts after the gelding. He ran on strongly over 1800m on this course last time and won easier than the official margin suggests. The drop to a mile is a slight concern, but he is in a good space and has ability. Philasande Mxoli knows him well and he should bring up the hat-trick.

GREETING MY MASTER won a good race over this C&D last time. He set the pace that day and found extra where it matters most. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

ATARIME is a winner of his last two starts. It must be noted that the horse that finished third in his last outing has come out and won since. He is having his peak run and merits healthy respect
