Race 1
Nine of the ten runners in this contest are first timers and the betting market will be the best guide with regards to their chances. BUFFALO STORM CODY is a son of Buffalo Bill Cody from the Tony Peter stable with Calvin Habib in the saddle. He is related to multiple winners including Freed From Desire and City By The Sea. If not too green, he should start his career on a positive note.
BAD MEDICINE is a son of Vercingetorix from the Johan Janse van Vuuren yard with Gavin Lerena up. He is related to seven-time winner Elusive Heart. If not in need of the run, he should feature.
IT’S PERSONAL was in need of his debut effort over 1200m at the Vaal. He would have come on from the run and with Richard Fourie in the saddle, he should make the natural improvement.
Race 2
RODEO DRIVE produced a promising debut effort over 800m on the Standside course. She was slow into stride, but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The daughter of The United States would have strengthened up during her time off the track. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and the combination should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.
POINTER is an unraced daughter of Canford Cliffs from the Alec Laird stable with Diego De Gouveia in the saddle. She is related to Moving In who has won once and placed four times from seven starts. If not too green, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her and the other first timers.
FAR REACHING is a daughter of Vercingetorix from the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and if not in need of the run, she should give a good account of herself.
Race 3
FOREST GOD made the expected natural improvement when second in his last start over 1600m on this course. He raced from a handy position but found one too good in the form of Two Miles West. The son of Silvano will love the rise to 2000m and he can go one better.
DARK SILVER ran a good race when third in his last start over 1800m on the Standside course. It must be noted that Marauding Horde has come out and won a Listed race since. He tries the blinkers which should keep his mind on the task at hand. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
ROSSORE FINALE challenged strongly in his last start but was outrun late by Judgement Day. If seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 4
ROYAL MAZARIN is a winner of his last two starts, the latest of which was over 2400m on the Standside course. He has won once, finished second once and third twice from nine starts over this C&D. He meets similar opposition this afternoon and can notch up the hat-trick.
KUDZU took the lead at the 150m mark last time but was caught late by Futurewolff. He finished 7.25 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 6kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
IDEAL FUTURE is better than his last start over 2400m at the Vaal. He takes a drop in class and from pole position, he should find a form return.
Race 5
ARIEL’S JET has shown some signs of needing her last two starts after returning from a 14-week break. She finished second in her only attempt over this distance, three runs ago. The daughter of Diesel Jet is having her peak run today and in this field, she can return to winning ways.
FEELING GROOVY finished 0.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 2.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.
SUMMERLAND was an easy winner of her last start over 2000m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack. If repeating that effort in this field, she should earn a cheque for her patrons.
Race 6
GOLDEN PAVILION followed up his maiden victory with a good third-place finish over 1500m on this course. He received a bump leaving the start, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of Danon Platina will love the rise to the mile and he may be the one to beat.
WILLOW EXPRESS moved up like a winner in his last start but found one too good in the form of Nordic Rebel. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
FUTUREWOLFF got up late when winning over 1800m on this course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. If confirming his recent improvement, he can follow up.
Race 7
WARHAWK BOMBER is a winner of his last two starts on this course. He raced from a handy position over 1600m last time and rallied late to win. He received a five-pound penalty for that victory. The son of Lancaster Bomber takes another rise in class but he carries a handy galloping mass of 55kgs and should be up to the task at hand.
CAPTAIN OF GRIT has good consistent form lines to his credit. It must be noted that multiple horses from his last form line have come out and won since. If not in need of the run, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
PAISLEY PARK returns from a 17-week break. He won his only attempt over this distance. If getting away to a clean start and if fit, he should be mowing down the frontrunners.
Race 8
ON CUE ran a fair race in the Non-Black Type TAB Bauhinia Handicap last time. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Three of her five career victories have come over this distance. She takes on weaker company this afternoon and can return to winning ways.
LOVEGRASS won a good race on debut over this distance on the Standside course. She returns from a 15-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight could be anything and she can remain unbeaten.
WOMEN OF FAME’S last start can be ignored as she was reported to be not striding out. It must be noted that Law Of Success has come out and won again since. On previous form, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest
