Race 1
FLYINGREIGNSTORM has produced three fair efforts to date. The daughter of Flying The Flag is a progressive type and she is the stable elect with Calvin Habib in the saddle. She meets the right field and can shed her maiden tag.
THE QUEEN BEE is better than her last start over 1400m on the turf. The daughter of The Apache drops back to the 1200m and on her previous form, she should be involved.
FIRECRACKER showed signs of needing her debut effort over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. She found betting support that day which suggests that she was showing some good work at home. The daughter of Wylie Hall would have come on from the run and should make the natural progression.
Race 2
ELEGANT ACT was running on when second over this distance on the turf last time. She finished second in her only attempt on this course, four runs ago. She is drawn widest of all in a small field but Craig Zackey knows her well and he should give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
VALLI GAL finished 1.4 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
GRECIAN PALACE stayed on when third over 1000m on this course last time. Her best career effort came under Wesley Marwing, three runs ago. She is likely to race on the speed from pole position and may be hard to peg back.
Race 3
This is a competitive Merit Rated 82 Handicap and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is HOPE IS POWER from the Gareth van Zyl stable. He showed good guts and determination when winning his last start over 1200m on this course. He received a three-pound penalty for that victory. Apprentice Kobeli Lihaba takes the 2.5kgs off his back once again and he can follow up.
MASTER FUEGO won a good race in his last start over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. The drop to 1400m is no concern as he won his maiden over this distance. He is a horse with ability and if suited to the polytrack, he should be competitive.
ICE KINGDOM’S last two starts have been good. The 12-week break may have done him the world of good. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, he can show.
Race 4
WHATSUPBUTTACUP stayed on at the finish over 1900m on the turf last time. She would have come on from the run and will strip much fitter. The daughter of Noble Tune takes a drop-in the ratings and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
DEAL GIFT ran on strongly to win her last start over this C&D. She would have come on from the run. She does take on stronger, but is in a good space and should be up to the task at hand.
JUST VIRGINIA finished 1.5 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. She is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
Race 5
JUSTFORTHEEPENNY has good consistent form lines to his credit. He stayed on when third over 1700m on this course last time. The 7yo gelding finished third in his only C&D attempt. He takes a drop-in class this afternoon and will be mowing down the frontrunners. SAFE SPACE finished 2.55 lengths behind
TOBACCONIST last time. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
TOBACCONIST challenged strongly in his last start over 2000m on the turf, but was touched off by Tin Cup. If repeating that effort in this field, he should earn another cheque for his patrons.
Race 6
FLYING THE STAR was unlucky not to have won her last start as she was squeezed leaving the start. The manner in which she finished off her race that day was eye-catching. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. If getting away to a clean start, she can return to winning ways. She is carded to race on 07 January 2024 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
MAGGIE TEE stayed on when third over 1400m on this course last time. Both her career victories have come over this C&D. With luck in running, she should pose a massive threat.
POPPY OF BAYEUX finished 1.4 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. She does have the pace to overcome her wide draw and can show if fit.
Race 7
PELARGONIUM is better than her last start over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. Two of her four career victories have come over this distance. She does have to contend with the widest draw, but Rachel Venniker is likely to use her early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy.
VISION TO ACHIEVE was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She does take on stronger, but is in a good space and may be up to the task at hand.
LOVE BOMB stayed on when fourth over 1900m last time. The 16-week break may have done her the world of good. She has won once and finished third twice from four starts over this C&D. On best form shown, she should be involved
