RACE 1
HORSEFLY returns from an 11-week break and is having his first run for the Alan Greeff stable. His last start can be ignored as he was reported to be not striding out. The drop to 1000m may suit him well. If suited to the polytrack, big improvement is expected.
CONNECTION showed good speed and stayed on to finish fourth over 1200m on the turf last time. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
JUSTCANTGETENOUGH is having his first run for the Sharon Kotzen stable. It must be noted that Presley has come out and won again since. He can improve to finish in the money.
RACE 2
SUNLIT FROM HEAVEN ran a good race when second in her last start over 2400m on the turf. She raced from a handy position and stayed on nicely at the finish. The daughter of Elusive Fort meets the right field today and she can go one better.
SUNDROP is better than her last start after an awkward beginning. She has finished third twice from three starts over this C&D. On best form shown, she should throw out a challenge to the top choice.
SECRET SUMMER has poor recent form lines to her name. However, she finished third in her only attempt over this C&D. Richard Fourie steps back into the saddle and she cannot be ignored.
RACE 3
DUELLONA set the pace over this C&D last time, but was touched off by Sky Velocity. The daughter of Fire Away is having her first run for the Gavin Smith stable. She meets the right field and should be the one to beat.
RAIN BIRD ran a fair race over 1400m on the turf last time. She has cracked a good draw of three and if seeing out the mile, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
ELUSIVE MATA finished 3 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 1kg worse off at the weights and may battle to turn the form around. If finding her earlier form, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
RACE 4
GREAT AFFAIR ran a fair race against stronger company last time. He has won over this C&D in the past. The 6yo gelding takes a drop-in class and with Raymond Danielson back in the saddle, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
ST CLOUD was disappointing in her last start over 1900m on the turf. She won a good race in her penultimate outing over 1900m on this course. She is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from her awkward draw of nine and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
GOLD FOR AFRICA finished 2.25 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
Race 5
CRUISE CONTROL showed good speed over 1200m on the turf last time, but was caught late. He finished 0.2 lengths behind EVIES FIRST that day. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The son of Querari is unbeaten from two starts on this course and he should keep that record intact.
CLIFF TOP has been disappointing in his last two starts. He has won three times, finished second twice and third once from as many starts over this distance. If putting his best foot forward, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
EVIES FIRST got up late to win his last start over 1200m on the turf. He gets the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Trent Mayhew which will assist his cause. The 6yo gelding cannot be ignored.
Race 6
FINAL EDITION has finished second in his last three starts over 1600m. He set the pace on the turf last time but was caught late by Sand Bank. He should be ideally suited to the 1400m. Despite his big mass, he should be rewarded for consistency.
AMERICAN DREAM won a good race in his last start over this C&D. He set the pace that day and kept finding all the way to the line. He is in a good space and can follow up.
GUNSMOKE finished 0.3 lengths behind TIMBAVATI RIVER last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He will strip a much fitter horse and must be included in all bets.
RACE 7
SUMMER ODYSSEY is better than her last start on the turf. Her two previous outings on this course were decent. She is the best weighted runner in this contest and with Richard Fourie back in the saddle, she may be the one to side with.
MARY LAMB’S last three starts have been decent. The tongue-tie seems to have done the trick. She is versatile and with luck from the widest draw, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
CONCERTO is another from the Alan Greeff stable. She ran a fair race in her first run out of the maidens over 1000m on the turf. The daughter of Canford Cliffs should love the rise to 1400m. She has plenty of scope and should run a positive race.
RACE 8
KABON KAPI is much better than her last start in the Non-Black Type Lady’s Bracelet. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. Her two previous outings on this course were fair. The daughter of Flower Alley won her only attempt over this C&D. With the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Trent Mayhew, she should give the males a run for their money.
DONNY TEE has good recent form lines to his name. He takes a drop back in class and with luck in running, should be the first male past the post.
COASTAL PATH ran on strongly when second in his last start over 1000m on the turf. Both his career victories have come over this distance. He jumps from a good draw of three and cannot be ignored
