RACE 1
CONCERTO showed good improvement in her last start over 1000m on this course. She raced from just off the pace, moved up well but was caught late by Pompei Warning. The daughter of Canford Cliffs is a progressive type and back against her own sex, she can go one better.
FIRE CHASER ran a fair race in her last start over this distance on the turf. She showed good speed and stayed on at the business end. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
BEST INTENTIONS should have finished closer to the winner last time as the saddle was reported to have slipped in running. She is drawn widest of all but S’manga Khumalo is likely to use her early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy.
RACE 2
MORNING CHESS is better than his last two starts in KZN. He was reported to be changing strides in his penultimate run and not striding out and fatigued in his latest outing. It must be noted that the horse that finished third in his last start has come out and won since. He is having his first run for Lunga Gila. On his best form shown and if settled into his new surroundings, he is capable of winning in a field of this nature.
BRIDGERTON has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth in his last effort has come out and won since. He is yet to be unplaced on this course and will be looking to keep that record intact.
DESTINY’S ANGEL is having his first run for the Gavin Smith stable. His last three starts in the Western Cape have been fair. He carries a handy galloping mass of 54kgs and if suited to the polytrack, he can show.
RACE 3
WOLFRAM has decent consistent form lines to his name. He stayed on when third over 2200m on this course last time. He has finished second once and third twice from four starts over this C&D. He is having his peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. Raymond Danielson is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
FUJISAN stayed on when third over 1600m on this course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. If seeing out the 1900m, he should pose a massive threat.
FEARLESS BADGER showed good improvement in his last start over this C&D. The son of Rafeef is a progressive type and may have more to come.
RACE 4
DOWNING SEVEN is a winner of his last two starts over this C&D. The manner in which he won his last start was impressive. He ran on well and drew clear of the opposition in the run down to the line. The son of William Longsword does have a wide draw to overcome, but he is likely to be settled near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners. He is capable of bringing up the hat- trick.
MATSUYAMO finished 1.55 lengths behind EUPHORIC last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today. That should be enough for the tables to be turned.
PAINITE is better than his last start on the turf. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from as many starts on this course. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
Race 5
TRUMP MY QUEEN’S last three starts in the Eastern Cape have been fair. She should have finished closer last time as she had to be steadied at the 300m mark and she was reported to be coughing. The 5yo mare takes a drop-in class and despite having to carry top weight, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
ILHA DA MAURICIA is better than her last start as she was reported to be in season. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. If finding the form of her penultimate run, she should pose a threat.
STATE OF MIND was doing her best work late when fifth over 1400m last time. She has cracked pole position and if getting away to a clean start, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 6
CHARLIE MALONE stayed on strongly when fourth over 1400m on this course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The manner in which he has been finishing off his races suggests that he will love the rise to the mile. From his handy draw of five, he can notch up his second career victory.
PATH OF CHOICE has some good recent form lines to his credit. He jumps from a good draw of two and merits healthy respect.
ARTURO finished 1.5 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result. He tries the mile for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he can finish in the money.
RACE 7
PARIS LASS is the best bet on the programme. She ran a good race when third over this distance on the turf, behind Three Rocks. She was reported to have cast a shoe in running that day which makes the effort that much more encouraging. She would have come on from her last outing and should strip much fitter. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and she is the best-weighted runner. The daughter of Visionaire should take a power of beating.
EXECUTOR is better than her last start as the jockey reported something to be amiss. She returns from a 20-week break which would have done her the world of good. Her best form has been on this course and if fit, she should be the one to fill the exacta spot.
WHATABALL won her local debut over this C&D. She does take on stronger company today, but is lightly raced and has plenty of scope.
RACE 8
COOL WINTER’S last two starts have been good. He stayed on when third over this C&D last time. The son of What A Winter takes a drop-in class and with a bit of luck in running, he can notch up his fourth career victory.
FIRST ORIGIN finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
WHATEVER NEXT showed good signs of a form return in his last start over this C&D. He was slow into stride, but finished off his race nicely. He drops in class and if jumping on terms, he may have more to come
