Race 1
UNIVERSAL LOVE has produced two fair efforts to date. She should have finished closer to the winner last time as she had to be switched for running room at the 400m mark. The daughter of Ideal World is bred to enjoy the rise to 1600m and in this type of field, she can shed her maiden tag.
THE WORK OF LIFE has finished third in her last two starts, the latest of which was over 1450m on this course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Jockey Muzi Yeni is in hot form and the daughter of Coup De Grace is one of the leading contenders.
LORNA LILLY showed good improvement in a work riders race last time. She raced from a handy position, but found one too good in the form of Lady Fallon. If confirming her recent improvement, she can finish in the placings.
Race 2
MONDIAL is the best bet on the programme. He produced a promising debut effort over this distance. The son of Flower Alley understandably raced green, but the manner in which he finished off his race was eye-catching. The son of Flower Alley would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should take a power of beating.
PURPLE PITCHER ran a fair race in the Non-Black Type Highveld Winter Juvenile Stakes last time. The son of New Predator looks to be above average and he should be competitive. He is carded to race on 17 August 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
HOUSE OF ROMANOV showed some improvement in his last start over 1750m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville and has now changed stables. The son of Potala Palace is a progressive type and if settled into his new surroundings, he may have more to come.
Race 3
CALLMEWHENUNEEDME has very good consistent form lines to her credit. She should have finished closer to the winner last time as she was cramped for galloping room at the 200m mark and had to be switched. She has won once and finished second once from as many starts on this course. The daughter of Master Of My Fate will love the rise to the mile and can return to winning ways.
SILVER SANCTUARY took on male company in her first run out of the maidens. The well-related daughter of Silvano has plenty of scope and back against her own sex, she should pose a threat.
ELEMENTAL FORCE won a game race in her last start over 1400m at Turffontein. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She is the stable elect with Philasande Mxoli in the saddle and should give a good account of herself.
Race 4
QUIET REBELLION won a good race in her last start over 1800m on the Turffontein Inside course. She has won once and finished third twice from five starts over this distance. Apprentice Siyanda Sosibo takes the 2.5kgs off her back which will help her cause. She may be the one to side with in this field
I AM REGAL fought hard for her last victory over 1400m at Turffontein. She received a five-pound penalty for that victory. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
DANCING ARABIAN finished 4.75 lengths behind the second choice last time. She is 3kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. She has won twice and finished second twice from five starts over this C&D. If finding the form of her penultimate run, she should go close.
Race 5
STRATOSPHERIC‘S last two starts have been fair. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he will not have any issues with the rise to 2000m. He meets the right field today and can return to winning ways.
TWIN TURBO was outrun late when fourth over 1800m last time. He has won once and finished third twice from six starts on this course. Calvin Habib retains the ride and the pair may be hard to peg back.
DESTINY OF SOULS has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. It must be noted that the form of his last outing has been franked. He jumps from a good draw of two and will be staying on at the finish.
Race 6
MAJESTIC TOUCH took on a competitive field in the Grade 2 Durban Golden Horseshoe last time. It must be noted that Sandringham Summit has come out and won a Grade 1 since. The son of Pathfork won his maiden over this C&D. He has class about him and should give his older rivals a run for their money.
FUNKY MUSIC was an easy winner of his last start over 1600m at Turffontein. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He is carded to race on 17 August 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
SILENT WAR ran on strongly when winning his last start over 1160m at Turffontein. If jumping on terms, he can follow up
Race 7
BLOOMINGTON moved up well in his last start over 1600m at Turffontein, but was outrun late. He has won twice, finished second once and third once from nine starts over this distance. The 5yo gelding runs well for S’manga Khumalo and he is capable of returning to winning ways.
. NORDIC REBEL challenged strongly in his last start over 1600m, but found one too good in the form of Running Rifles. He has dropped to a competitive rating and from his good draw of three, he should pose a massive threat.
PINCH HIT‘S last three starts have been fair. He has won once and finished second once from four starts on this course. If getting away to a clean start, he can finish in the placings.
Race 8
TIZONA has finished second in his last four starts. He is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D. The son of William Longsword is likely to race on the speed and may be rewarded for consistency.
CRIMSON PRINCESS took the lead at the 350m mark last time, quickened up well and won with a ton in hand. She is having her first run for the Roy Magner stable and if settled into her new surroundings, she should give the males a run for their money.
SMITH AND WESSON was running on when third in the Listed LHKIR In December Umngeni Handicap last time. He has won twice and finished third once from five starts on this course. He tries the 1450m and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should be right there.
Race 9
INVENTRIX ran a decent race when fourth in her last start over this distance on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack, despite the jockey reporting something to be amiss. She is back on the Highveld and on best form shown, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
HAPPY ANALIA finished 0.85 lengths behind MIA REGINA last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line. The daughter of Erupt may be hard to peg back.
MIA REGINA should have finished closer to the winner last time as she hung in the final 300m. She has won once, finished second once and third twice from six starts over this C&D. If keeping on a straight line, she should have a say
