Race 1
STAR PERFORMER produced a promising debut effort over 1100m on this course. He showed good pace, but was outrun late. The son of What A Winter found betting support that day which suggests that he was showing good work at home. He returns from a 21-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. He meets the right field and if not in need of the run, he should take a power of beating.
CHAMPONELLE ran a good race when fourth over this C&D last time. He should have finished closer to the winner that day as he hung in the closing stages. If keeping on a straight line, he should pose a threat.
THE SHEPHERD is an unraced son of Captain Of All from the Peter Muscutt stable with Richard Fourie in the saddle. He is related to two-time winner Frosted Steel. If not in need of the run, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.
Race 2
CAPTAIN‘S CHRISTY was touched off in the Grade 2 Debutante last time. She ran on well, fought hard but found one too good in the form of Cala Muretta. The daughter of Captain Of All is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D. She runs well for Cole Dicken and can notch up her third career victory.
ANCIENT EPIC has finished second in her last three starts. She has won three times, finished second twice and third once from eight starts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
RUSSIAN DOLL was an easy winner in the Non-Black Type Blue Sky Thoroughbreds KZN Breeders 1200 last time. The daughter of Pathfork was given a six-pound penalty for that victory. She is in a good space and must be included in all bets.
Race 3
JANE‘S VISION ran a good race when second in her last start over this C&D. She raced from just off the pace and stayed on well at the business end. The daughter of Visionaire is a progressive type and may be the one to side with.
KIAN‘S PRIDE finished second in her last start over this distance on the polytrack. She finished 1.4 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result
WHAT NOW MY GAL finished 0.5 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line
Race 4
FREEDOM SQUARE is one of the better bets on today’s card. She ran a good race when third over this C&D last time. The tongue-tie seems to have done the trick on the daughter of Rafeef. Richard Fourie steps back into the saddle and in this line-up, she can shed her maiden tag.
MADAME POMPADOUR finished 0.4 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result. The daughter of Canford Cliffs will be doing her best work at the finish.
BEACH LANDING showed some good improvement in her last start over 1750m on this course. She returns from an 18-week break which may have done her the world of good. If not in need of this outing, she may have more to come.
Race 5
MALCOLM‘S DREAM was her own worst enemy last time as she over raced in the early stages. Her penultimate run when second in the Non-Black Type Willow Magic KZN Breeders 1600 catches the eye. The daughter of Master Of My Fate won her only attempt over this distance. She jumps from pole position and if switching off early, she should notch up her third career victory.
HUGSANDHIGHFIVES stayed on when third over this distance on the polytrack last time. She finished 3.45 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate run. She is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
BITCOIN BABY ran a fair race in her post maiden effort over 1600m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She finished second in her only attempt over this distance. The daughter of Danon Platina has scope and should give her older rivals a run for their money.
Race 6
This is a weak Maiden Plate for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is SACRED LILY from the Lola Crawford stable. She stayed on at the finish over 1700m on the polytrack last time, but found one too good in the form of Woodland Glade. The 5yo mare should have no issues with the rise to 1950m. She does have a wide draw of 12 to contend with, but gets the services of Richard Fourie who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
PRINCESS AZARIAH was a tad disappointing in her last start. Her penultimate run when third over this C&D was encouraging. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces
IF YOU SAY SO has fair recent form lines to her credit. She showed signs of needing her last start and will strip much fitter. She has cracked a good draw of two and can run into the placings.
Race 7
AURORA STORM is the best bet on the programme. He has good recent form lines to his credit. He was squeezed leaving the start last time, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. It must be noted that Ponte Pietra has come out and won again since. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. From pole position, he should notch up his third career victory.
KITCHAKAL stayed on when fourth over 1400m on this course last time. His penultimate run when winning over this C&D was encouraging. He will strip a much fitter horse and is one of the leading contenders.
BOUNDLESS BASH was in need of his comeback run over 1950m last time. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. He is likely to race from a prominent position and may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.
Race 8
GIMME A RAINBOW‘S last two starts over 1000m have been fair. He has won five times, finished second six times and third three times from 23 starts over this distance. Apprentice Trent Mayhew takes the 4kgs off his back which will help his cause. He continues to drop in the ratings and can return to winning ways
NORTHERN WARRIOR has fair recent form lines to his credit. He has won once, finished second once and third four times from eleven starts over this C&D. He will strip a much fitter horse today and must be included in all bets.
SEA VISTA is the stable companion of the second choice. He showed good speed over 1000m last time, fought hard but found one too good in the form of Philispiel. He has won once and finished second twice from five starts on this course. He will strip much fitter and can go one better
