Race 1
SCARS OF WAR has produced two good runs to date. She set the pace over this C&D last time, but was caught in the shadow of the post by Apache Son. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Chamu Mabaya won the latest work riders contest and he can follow up with another victory.
BELLA’S CHARM showed good improvement in her last start over this C&D. She lost two lengths leaving the start, but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. She is a progressive type and is one of the leading contenders.
SILVER PARASOL was in need of her stable debut last time. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight will love the rise to 1450m. She should strip much fitter and can finish in the placings.
Race 2
RONDEBOSCH produced an encouraging debut effort in the Listed Storm Bird Stakes. The son of Gimmethegreenlight would have strengthened up during his time off the track. He takes on Maiden Company this afternoon and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be the one to beat.
HALCYON ran a good race when second on debut over 1160m on the Standside course. He raced from just off the pace and stayed on at the finish. The son of Gimmethegreenlight is carded to race on 18 May 2024 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
SAKURAJIMA was his own worst enemy over a mile last time as he over raced in the early stages. His debut effort over 1450m was encouraging. The son of Talk Of The Town has scope and he can feature.
Race 3
GREEN SAPPHIRE produced a promising debut effort over this distance at the Vaal. She was slow into stride, understandably raced green but stayed on nicely at the finish. She would have gained from the experience and if not too green around the turn, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
KHETHIWE’S DESTINY has produced two good third place finishes to date. The daughter of Buffalo Bill Cody should be suited to racing around the turn and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
FAR REACHING should have finished closer last time as she hung inwards in the final 400m. Her debut effort when second over 1000m on this course was eye-catching. If keeping on a straight line, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 4
WHAT A TIGER ran a fair race in his last start over this distance at the Vaal. The son of What A Winter takes on weaker opposition today and his last good effort came in this Class. S’manga Khumalo is booked to ride and he may be able to get the best out of him where it matters most.
TURBO POWER’S last two starts have been fair. He lost a length leaving the start on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack last time and stayed on at the finish. If getting away to a clean start, he should pose a massive threat.
ALABAMA ANNA took on stronger in her last start over 1450m on this course. Two of her four career victories have come over this distance. She takes on weaker this afternoon and should give the males a run for their money.
Race 5
QUE CEU AZUL was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over 1500m at the Vaal. The removal of the blinkers has done the trick. She won her only attempt over this C&D. She is in a good space and can follow up.
RADU stayed on when fifth over 1400m on the Standside course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She is carded to race on 18 May 2024 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
PRETTY IN PEARLS ran on powerfully when winning her last start over 2000m on the Vaal Classic course. She has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this distance. She takes a slight rise in class but should give a good account of herself.
Race 6
HEART PEAKS won a good race in her last start over this C&D. The daughter of Erupt is unbeaten from two starts over this track and trip. She jumps from a good draw of three and can notch up her third- career victory.
LITTLEMARYSUNSHINE returns from a 21-week break which may have done her the world of good. She won her only attempt over this C&D. The daughter of Silvano takes a drop in class and she can improve if fit.
SPRING IN HEAVEN is better than her last start in a feature race. She finished third in her only attempt over this C&D. The daughter of Heavenly Blue runs well for Raymond Danielson and she should give a good account of herself.
Race 7
CAPTAIN OF GRIT has good consistent form lines to his credit. He returns from a 23-week break and is having his first run for the Tony Peter stable. The son of Captain Of All is the stable elect with Calvin Habib in the saddle and if not in need of the run, he can notch up his third-career victory.
JOKER MAN is a winner of his last three starts. The son of Vercingetorix is a versatile type and he merits healthy respect.
SILENT WAR ran a good race when second in his last start over 1700m on this course. He has won twice, finished second four times and third twice from 12 starts over this distance. Despite his big mass of 62kgs, he should run another big race.
Race 8
MOONSHININGTHROUGH took on stronger in her last start in the Grade 2 Jehan Malherbe Senor Santa Stakes. She has won three times and finished second once from six starts on this course. The blinkers have been re-fitted for this outing and with Gavin Lerena back in the saddle, she should go close.
LAW OF SUCCESS has finished second in her last two starts. She finished 1.7 lengths behind ICE STAR in her penultimate run. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
ICE STAR showed good speed when winning her last start over this C&D. She received a four-pound penalty for that victory. She is likely to race on the speed once again and must be included in all bets.
Race 9
LOVEGRASS followed up her debut victory with a good second-place finish over this C&D. She cost herself winning that day as she hung in the final 300m. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight looks to be above average and she should be the horse to beat.
HAPPY ANALIA ran a fair race in her last start over this distance at the Vaal. She finished 3.2 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate run. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
JASIRI’S last two starts have been fair. It must be noted that Dreamland has come out and won again since. She is having her peak run today and is a solid back up for the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable.
