Race 1
THE GHOST was not disgraced when fourth in the Grade 3 tabGOLD Strelitzia Stakes last time. She should have finished closer to the winner that day as she hung inwards in the final 300m. The daughter of Danon Platina will love the rise to 1400m and back in Maiden Company, she may be the one to side with. AVERNIAN GODDESS was unlucky not to have won on debut as she had to be steadied and switched for running room at the 300m mark. The daughter of Vercingetorix would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be competitive.
SPIRIT OF LEVANA ran a good race on debut over 1200m on the Polytrack. She raced from a handy position, but found one too good in the form of Gimmie’s Countess who looks to be above average. The daughter of Fire Away will enjoy the extra furlong on offer and she should make the natural progression.
Race 2
BARRY DU GROND produced an encouraging debut effort over this C&D, three weeks ago. He showed good pace and stayed on to finish third. The son of Last Winter would have gained from the experience and with a bit of luck from his awkward draw of nine, he can win a race of this nature.
FUTURE FLO was his own worst enemy last time as he over raced and hung in running. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
CELTIC CHIEF returns from a 12-week break and is having his first run in KZN. His last outing over 1000m was fair. The son of Vercingetorix jumps from a good draw of two and if not in need of the run, he should give a good account of himself. G
Race 3
RHYDIAN should have finished closer to the winner last time as he was inconvenienced at the 100m mark. The manner in which he has finished off both his races to date suggests that he will love the rise to the mile. He jumps from a mid-field draw of six and if not too far out of his ground turning for home, he should be the one to beat.
CHESTNUT BOMBER showed improvement in his last start over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course. He should have finished closer that day as he was held up for a run at the 400m mark. He is a progressive type and from pole position, he may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
KAROO GOLD was his own worst enemy last time as he over raced in the early stages. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he may be able to get the best out of the son of Ideal World.
Race 4
SPELLING BEE took on a competitive field in his first run out of the maidens. It must be noted that The Shepherd has come out and finished second against much stronger company since. The son of Futura was an impressive winner when shedding his maiden tag over 1400m on this course, in his penultimate run. He takes a drop in class and from his good draw of three, he should be involved.
DOWN BY THE RIVER was an easy winner of his last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He received a seven-pound penalty for that victory. He takes on stronger, but is in a good space and should be up to the task at hand.
BRISTOL HERCULES was running on when second over 1400m last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, he should be competitive.
Race 5
CAPE EAGLE was ridden to perfection when winning the Non-Black Type Highland Night Cup last time. Serino Moodley adopted different tactics that day and he ran on from last to get up where it matters most. He has won three times, finished second once and third three times from nine starts on this course. The 6yo gelding always gives of his best and he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure once again.
ONE WAY TRAFFIC finished 0.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter.
MARAUDING HORDE is better than his last start in the Grade 1 TAB SA Derby as he was reported to be fatigued. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He carries a handy galloping mass of 52kgs and should give a good account of himself.
Race 6
FRANCES ETHEL is one of the better bets on the card. She was an impressive winner in the Grade 2 Wilgerbosdrift Bridget Oppenheimer SA Oaks last time. The manner in which she quickened up was eye- catching. The daughter of Rafeef has got better with each outing and from her good draw of two, she should be the one to beat.
SILVER SANCTUARY finished 3.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result. From pole position, she merits healthy respect.
SAARTJIE ran on from far back when winning the Listed KRA East Coast Cup last time. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. The daughter of Dynasty should be the first older horse past the finishing post.
Race 7
GREEN WITH ENVY is the best bet on the programme. He was an impressive winner in the Grade 2 WSB Guineas over 1600m, which is a distance short of his best. He was settled at the rear of the field, ran on powerfully and got up to beat Sandringham Summit. The son of Gimmethegreenlight will love the rise to 2000m and he should take a power of beating.
PURE PREDATOR won the Grade 2 TAB Colorado King Stakes easier than the official margin suggests. He finished a neck behind Purple Pitcher in the Grade 1 TAB SA Derby in his penultimate run. He is a horse with class and merits healthy respect.
HOTARUBI finished 0.75 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish. He is drawn widest of all, but S’manga Khumalo knows him well and he should give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
Race 8
This is a competitive Merit Rated 100 Handicap for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is THAT’S MY BABY from the Sean Tarry stable. She produced an encouraging effort in the Listed Secretariat Stakes last time after 41 weeks off the track. The daughter of Master Of My Fate would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. She is a filly with ability and may be the one to side with.
SOVEREIGN GRANT is better than her last start in the Grade 2 WSB Fillies Guineas. She returns to Handicap Company and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
ROCKIE REEF stayed on at the finish in the Listed KRA East Coast Cup last time. She has won twice and finished third once from five starts over this C&D. She will be at peak fitness and S’manga Khumalo may get the best out of her.
Race 9
SIMPLY MAGIC stayed on when third in her last start over 1160m at Turffontein, against stronger company. She takes a slight drop in class and with a bit of luck from her awkward draw of nine, she can notch up her third-career victory.
WESTERN WISHES stayed on when fourth over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. It must be noted that Pritti Victory has come out and won again since. She tries the blinkers for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand.
MISS GIBSON ran a fair race in her last start over 1400m on this course. She should have no issues with the drop to 1200m and can earn another cheque for her patrons
