BettingDiaryThe English Premier League is back and we take a look at 3 of the matches taking place on the opening weekend and suggest a bet in each.

Manchester City are once again short price favourites to defend their title and you can currently get them at 6/10 with Liverpool at 85/40, Tottenham 12/1, Chelsea 15/1 and you can get 28/1 and better the balance.

SATURDAY

FULHAM v LIVERPOOL

Fulham are back in the English Premier League after winning the Championship last season. They have played a number of friendly fixtures building to this day and last time out draw 1-1 with Villarreal.

Liverpool were only just pipped by Manchester City last season losing by a point and it was certainly a thrilling title race. They were in action last week against Manchester City in the Community Shield where they won 3-1. They will know that dropping points against teams like Fulham is simply not an option if they want to win the title this season.

These sides last met in the 2020/21 season where this fixture finished 1-1 and Fulham beat Liverpool on the road 1-0.

Fulham 9/1

Draw 5/1

Liverpool 2/7

Suggested Bet: Handicap, Liverpool -2 goals, the draw at 3/1

For this bet to arrive we need Liverpool to win by exactly 2 goals and I can see that as a likely outcome with Fulham holding tight early before Liverpool go ahead before grabbing a second late on.

EVERTON v CHELSEA

Everton will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing season where they could only finish 16th and they face a Chelsea side that finished 3rd on the log, all be it a distant 18 points behind 2nd placed Liverpool. Looking at their pre-season form Everton have been in good nick and last time out beat Dynamo Kiev 3-0. Chelsea also won their last match 2-0 against Udinese.

Everton won this fixture 1-0 last season and that was their 4th successive home win against Chelsea in the League.

Everton 9/2

Draw 3/1

Chelsea 4/6

Suggested Bet: Everton win at 9/2

Everton have an excellent home record against Chelsea at Goodison Park and when I saw the price of 9/2 being dangled I just couldn’t resist getting involved. If you are a more conservative punter consider backing Everton +0.5 goals on the handicap of 13/10. This way you also get the draw win working in your favour.

SUNDAY

WEST HAM v MANCHESTER CITY

West Ham faded down the stretch last season eventually finishing in 7th spot and they face Manchester City who were crowned Champions a full 27 points ahead of them.

West Ham have played a number of friendlies in the last few months and while I wouldn’t read much into these, three of their last four have been drawn and the other one lost.

Manchester City were downed 3-1 by Liverpool in the Community Shield at Leicester last week, but prior to that had won 2 friendlies against Bayern Munich and Club America.

This fixture finished 2-2 last season and 1-1 the season before.

West Ham 7/1

Draw 9/2

Manchester City 37/100

Suggested Bet: Both teams to score, YES, at 9/10

Manchester City has a miserly defence, but West Ham are one of the few teams who regularly open it up and this bet would have landed in the last 4 League meetings between these sides.
