TUESDAY

MIDDLESBROUGH v TOTTENHAM

Middlesbrough claimed the scalp of Manchester United on the road last time out winning 2/1 on penalties. Prior to that they had also been away from home beating Mansfield 3-2. Middlesbrough have been a bit hit and miss in the Championship of late and on the weekend lost 3-2 away at Barnsley, but prior to that they beat West Brom 2-1 at home. One stat that does jump out is that goals have been flowing in their League games with both teams scoring in the last 5 and over 2.5 goals arriving in each of those as well.

Tottenham travel for the first time in this FA Cup having beaten Morecambe and Brighton at home both by 3 goals to 1. Tottenham have also been inconsistent in the League of late and they hammered Leeds 4-0 away on the weekend having lost 1-0 to Burnley away in midweek. Prior to that they have beaten leaders, Manchester City 3-2 on the road.

Middlesbrough 7/2

Draw 27/10

Tottenham 15/20

Suggested Bet: Tottenham win at 15/20

I am going to keep this fairly simple and go for an away win as I feel Spurs have got their sights firmly set on the FA Cup.

The other bet I considered is Over 2.5 goals at 8/10 and it was effectively a coin toss between the two.

WEDNESDAY

SOUTHAMPTON v WEST HAM

Southampton have made heavy work of reaching the last 16 having required extra time to beat Coventry at home in the Round of 32 and prior to that Swansea on the road. They are now unbeaten in 6 games across all competitions and they have won their last 2 League games, 2-0 against Norwich and Everton, both games taking place at home.

West Ham started the competition with a 2-0 home win over Leeds, but they were pushed quite hard at Kidderminster requiring extra time to win 2-1 and the 90 minute draw results was a 6/1 chance that day. The Hammers are unbeaten in their last 5, but they have drawn 2 of their last 3 games in the League although they did get back to winning ways with a 1-0 win at home to Wolves last time out.

Southampton 16/10

Draw 22/10

West Ham 17/10

Suggested Bet: Under 2.5 goals at 19/20

A look at the head-to-head stats between these sides shows that when Southampton host we tend to get low scoring encounters with a couple of goalless draws and a 1-0 result in the last 3 years in the League. That is enough evidence to have me take a rare Under 2.5 goal bet.

LIVERPOOL v NORWICH

Liverpool are coming off a thrilling penalties victory over Chelsea in the final of the Carabao Cup on the weekend and they will be looking to continue their FA Cup run having started with a 4-1 home win over Shrewsbury and followed that up with a 3-1 home win over Cardiff. Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 13 matches in all competitions and their last League action was a 6-0 thrashing of Leeds at Anfield.

Norwich have had a much less spectacular run to the Last 16 beating Charlton and Wolves on the road by 1 goal margins. They are still sitting at the foot of the English Premier League table though and have lost their last 3 League games in succession including a 2-0 away loss to Southampton on the weekend.

Liverpool have won their last 6 matches against Norwich in all competitions and earlier in the season they met here in the Premier League with Liverpool winning 3-1.

Liverpool 2/11

Draw 13/2

Norwich 14/1

Suggested Bet: Correct Score, 3-0 Liverpool at 11/2

Liverpool are firm favourites for this game and it is difficult to find a betting angle so I am going for a speculative Correct Score play as I can’t see Norwich standing in the way of an in form Liverpool side.
