BettingDiaryThe European Tour season climaxes this week with the DP World Tour Championship played at the Earth Course at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai. We take a look at the Tournament from a betting angle and select 4 players to take on the bookies.

The Earth Course plays to a par 72 and it is long with wide fairways. There are a host of bunkers scattered throughout and water can play a role down the finishing stretch. Given the room for error off the tee, driving distance is more often than not important and finding good position on the large undulating greens is also a steppingstone to victory here.

Rory Mcilroy heads the betting at 33/10 ahead of Jon Rahm who is looking for his 3rd win here. Matt Fitzpatrick is 17/2 and you can get 10/1 and better the balance.

SELECTIONS

Rory Mcilroy win only at 33/10

Rory has won this event twice before, the last time coming back in 2015 and he was 4th in 2019 and in 2021 he faded to finish 6th. Rory is in excellent form and I think the fact that he is half the price he started last year is justified given how good his game looked when winning the CJ Cup last time out.

Jon Rahm win only at 9/2

I don’t usually play the 2 market leaders in the same event but I really fancy one of this pair to take the win. Rahm has won this event twice in 3 starts and he is in great form with a 2nd place, a victory and a 4th in his last 3 starts.

Ryan Fox each way at 18/1 – betting without McIlroy and Rahm

I love the fact that I can bet in a market without the top 2 on the betting boards as there won’t be any confusion as to who I am pulling for down the stretch. Fox was impressive last week at Sun City only just getting beaten by Fleetwood. Fox has not played here since 2018 and he hasn’t shown anything here to date but in current form I just have to include him this week.

Adri Arnaus each way at 66/1– betting without McIlroy and Rahm

Arnaus is 100/1 this week having started 60/1 last year. The reason is that his current form is poor but he has had successive top 10’s here and clearly loves the course. Most of my plays are at short prices this week and he steps in to the outsider role.
