Hurricanes vs Blues – Saturday 18 July @ 09:05, Wellington

There is clearly an increase in performance from the Hurricanes of late. It should come as no surprise that this has gone hand in hand with the return of Jordie Barrett. TJ Perenara was also showing signs of getting back to his best against the Highlanders. Whilst the home side come into this one off the back of two victories the Blues went down to the Crusaders in a high-quality affair.

Team News

The Hurricanes will be delighted to have Dane Coles back in the line-up whilst there have been some setbacks for the Blues. The impressive Hoskins Sotutu will be sorely missed at the back of the scrum whilst Caleb Clarke’s explosive power on the wing would certainly have been an advantage to have. The line-out work of Erlund will have to be sharp for the visitors.

Tactics

The Canes blitzed the Southerners last week and the Blues will have to be weary that the same fate doesn’t await them. It would be easy for the Aucklanders to not quite pitch up for this clash ready to dig as deep as they did against the Crusaders considering how much of a physical and mental exertion the Christchurch trip must have been for them.

Despite coming up short against the Crusaders there were however some important positives for Leon McDonald’s team. The Blues have always been able to score some stunning tries, but this 2020 version have proven they have heart and grunt as well. They were able to keep the mighty Crusaders try less for an hour last week. We all know these Blues have a lethal back division but they also showed last week that they don’t shy away from the hard work on defence.

Verdict

The Hurricanes might have some confidence and are improved from a few weeks back. The Blues will also be missing a few vital players but if the Blues are up for this one they certainly have the fire-power, as well as the grit, to put the Canes away. I think there is some value to be had on the men in blue.

BETOLIMP BEST BETS

Blues to win @ 2.06

Yes, the Blues have some players out but their attitude on defence is what impressed me against the Crusaders. They are abetter side than the Canes and should get the job done.

Alternative Cap: Blues -11.5 @ 4.54

See above

Half Time / Full Time – Hurricanes / Blues @ 6.53

The Hurricanes have the habit of starting fast. This price tickles my fancy.

First Tryscorer: Jordie Barrett @ 20.00

As mentioned above, the Canes could come out flying in front of their home fans and Jordie has looked very lively.

Last Tryscorer: Dalton Papalii @ 24.00

The busy loosie should remain on the park throughout and having scored 3 tries already he has a decent chance of getting over for another one.
