nztestmatchCouch Critic previews the second test match between New Zealand and West Indies including best bets from @Olimp_SA

NEW ZEALAND vs WEST INDIES 2nd Test, Wellington. Friday 11 Dec @ 00:01

The Windies were handed a lesson at the hands of Kane Williamson in the first Test and the visitors will be looking for an improved effort with both bat and ball in Wellington.

Setting the Scene

The West Indies will be delighted by the timing of the Stork as Kane Williamson sits out this second clash with his wife expecting to give birth over the next few days. The Kiwi top order with Latham and Williamson showed the visitors how it should be done at the top. Conversely the highest score from the top 5 of the Islanders over both innings was 26. Tim Southee did the damage in the first innings whilst Neil Wagner toppled the opponents in the second dig.

How I see it Playing Out

One struggles to see any way back for the Windies. Their top order looked hapless in the first outing and despite the void left by Williamson it is the threat of Boult, Southee and Wagner that will remain a big obstacle. The visitors will also miss Kemar Roach for this game and I don’t see them having the fire power to bother the Black Caps.

The Basin Reserve could have a bit of life early but for the most part it is usually a good batting deck.

Betolimp Best Bets

Top West Indies 1st Innings Bowler – Shannon Gabriel @ 3.50

Jason Holder let me down in the first game. With Kemar Roach missing Gabriel will be the leader of the pack and in his 50th test he should come out full of fire and fury.

Top Windies 1st Innings Batsman – J Holder @ 9.00

With the top order in all sorts of strife at present it just makes sense going for someone further down the order. Holder finished not out in the first innings of the first test, only a run off winning in this market. At the price it looks a lovely play.

To score the most Sixes – West Indies @ 2.62

Despite their current struggles with the bat these Islanders love having a go and playing expansively. With Kane sitting out I see some real value in this market despite the hosts not playing a front line spinner.
