Hungarian Grand Prix Race 3 – Budapest. Hungaroring, Sunday 19 July @ 15:10

OVERVIEW

Lewis Hamilton dominated a wet qualifying session and then cruised around the Red Bull Ring in seemingly extreme comfort as he took the win with team mate, Bottas following him home after catching Verstappen later in the race on fresher tyres.

The Ferrari’s escaped Race 1 with a podium but their luck ran out this past weekend when Leclerc ran into Vettel shortly after the start which ended the team’s involvement early doors. In reality though the Scuderia’s were always going to struggle scoring significant points based on the pace they showed during the race weekend.

Racing Point and McLaren remain the impressive teams who are clearly well capable of pushing for top six results. Perez was even the fastest in the first Free Practice on Friday to show how good the “Pink Mercs” are going at present.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Where as the Mercs didn’t have the most dominant of history at Budapest, Hamilton has enjoyed the Hungaroring a lot. In the past four years Lewis has three wins to his name and off the back of a supreme lights-to-flag victory in Austria few will be betting against the man in the number 44 ending P1 on Sunday.

Hungary hasn’t really treated Red Bull all that well with a second place for Verstapen the only podium in recent times. Ferrari have promised more updates for Hungary and it couldn’t come soon enough. Vettel and Leclerc are in danger of not only battling to compete with Red Bull and Mercedes but even having their hands full with staying ahead of the impressive Racing Point and McLaren teams. The men in the under pressure scarlet reds will take some consultation from the fact that Budapest has delivered to wins and two further podiums for Vettel since 2015.

Verdict

Lewis was clearly keen on doing his bit for our bets but got beaten late on for the Fastest Lap honours. He did however bring home the bacon with a very comfortable race win. Any value in Hamilton to repeat what happened is quickly starting to disappear but given what transpired in the second race of the season now is not the time to abandon Team Hamilton.

BETOLIMP BEST BETS

Driver Special: Lewis Hamilton – Fastest Qualification time and Race Winner @ 2.50

Place your chips on number 44 to do the business and the qualifying and race double makes the payout worth your while.

Both cars to finish in the points – Ferrari YES @ 1.95

Surely things can only get better for the Ferrari’s. I don’t by any means think further car upgrades will make them compete for the win and yes qualification pace will probably still remain an issue. But in terms of longer distance pace they are not too far off. Regardless of the great from of McLaren and Racing Point I still see the men in Red well able to complete a dual points finish at a track that has treated the Italian team well.

Race Head to Head – Sainz to beat Norris onto Perez over Stroll @ 2.26

Norris is on form at present but has also enjoyed the rub of the green a bit. Carlos Sainz has four straight top tens at the Hungaroring so I will back him to keep this going and edge out his team mate whilst combining it with including the on fire Checo Perez to outperform Lance Stroll.
