CAPE TOWN BLITZ vs JOZI STARS

Cape Town (Thursday, 14 November – 17:30)

It’s only the second week and we already have a “return fixture” as the Blitz and the Stars clash, but this time in the Cape.

Setting the Scene:

Goodness knows what the organisers were thinking in pitting these two sides against each other for the second time in only their third match, but the Blitz might not be too angry with them as the strange scheduling offers the Capetonians the chance of pulling off a quick double whilst they still have the momentum over the men from the highveld. Having beaten the Jozi Stars with an impressive batting display on Friday Ashwell Prince’s side stuttered to an embarrassing 84 all out on Sunday.

The Jozi Stars started the Mzansi Super League as the favourites in the betting but the defending champs have gone on to lose both their first two encounters. Should they pick up a repeat dose from the Blitz in Cape Town it will leave them with plenty to do if they are to lift the trophy again in 2019.

Let’s Talk Tactics:

The 2018 champions haven’t quite gotten what they bargained for from their bowlers. Last year’s leading wicket taker, Duanne Olivier was dispatched from the scene after conceding 32 runs in his two overs in the opener whilst Dane Paterson has gone at 10 runs per over across both matches. Gayle coming off with the willow would help greatly but it’s with the ball that the Stars aren’t shining at present.

In Joburg the Blitz smashed the all star Jozi bowling attack to all parts with Janneman Malan leading the charge. With ball in hand Dale Steyn was the chief destroyer showing he had plenty left in the tank. On the tamer Boland pitch it was only Linde who came out of the game with much credibility. Philander has struggled whilst Mohammad Nawaz needs to bring more to the table.

Verdict:

It was proven in Paarl that the Blitz are overly reliant on their openers. I can’t see the Jozi boys not coming out all guns blazing for this one and there is even the fear factor of a now due Universe Boss to worry about.

Betolimp Bets:
