nrl.logoCouch Critic previews the NRL matches taking place on the 11th and 12th of July including best bets brought to you by @Olimp_SA

Let’s take a look at the weekend fixtures for Round 9 of the NRL.

CRONULLA SHARKS vs PENRITH PANTHERS – Sat 11 July @ 07:00, Netsrata Jubilee Stadium

The Story thus far

Two of the form teams meet in this Sydney derby. The Sharks have moved into the top eight off the back of three straight victories. The Panthers have also stated the same type of success during this period but against top opponents. Since Cleary has been steering this Penrith side they have been sublime.

Verdict

Cronulla is an improved outfit but they will hit a wall in the form of a Panthers side operating at an extremely high level at present. I don’t see the men in black having too much trouble in dishing out the pain here.

BRISBANE BRONCOS vs CANTERBURY BULLDOGS – Sat 11 July @ 09:30, Suncorp Stadium

The Story thus far

Oh jeez where do we begin… The Broncos have all the individual talents but none of the heart and determination of the Bulldogs. This is 14 versus 16 and whether crowds are allowed or not the chances are Suncorp wouldn’t see many supporters either way.

Verdict

The Dogs have only one victory to their name and will be eyeing a second as they line up the struggling Broncos. Brisbane could click at any moment and hand out a hiding yet the value has to lie with Canterbury, but some alternative plays may be the best option here.

CANBERRA RAIDERS vs MELBOURNE STORM – Sat 11 July @ 11:35, GIO Stadium

The Story thus far

Whilst few will be getting excited about the match at Suncorp on Saturday the final match of the day promises to be one of the matches of the weekend. Fourth on the log meets number 6 with both teams having shown some incredibly highs yet struggle with consistency.

Verdict

Canberra just aren’t quite the complete team at present whilst the Storm appear to be inching toward their top form. If Cam Munster does make his return here the result should be a foregone conclusion – back Melbourne to revenge their defeat in the earlier fixture.

NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS vs PARAMATTA EELS – Sun 12 July @ 08:05, McDonald Jones Stadium

The Story thus far

Newcastle are another team who’ve shown that at their best they are capable of mixing it at the top end of the field yet have struggled to consistently delivering results. The Eels on the other hand have been a model of consistency right at the top of the standings.

Verdict

The Eels have emerged as the real deal whilst the verdict is still out on the Knights. I expect the Parramatta Express to keep chugging along.

DRAGONS vs MANLY SEA EAGLES – Sun 12 July @ 10:30, Netsrata Jubilee Stadium

The Story thus far

After a superb start to the 2020 campaign Manly find themselves slipping down the table with three losses from their last four outings. The Dragons have show improvements during this same period (picking up two wins) but will need to keep that going if they won’t to challenge for a top eight spot.

Verdict

The Sea Eagles have had their struggles of late but this surely is a get-right opportunity for the men from the Northern Beaches.
