NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS vs NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS – Sat 27 June @ 07:00, Queensland Country Bank Stadium
The Story thus far
In the past three weeks the Cowboys have stuttered to three successive defeats at the hands of the Sharks, Warriors and the Tigers. In this same period Newcastle beat the Raiders and Broncos whilst only losing to the Storm. The Knights sit third on the log whilst North Queensland are in tenth place.
Verdict
The Cowboys still don’t have Val Holmes back whilst the Knights will miss Bradman Best. The North Queensland side are in a rut at present and things just aren’t clicking for them. Newcastle on the other hand are playing some really good footy and have a Kalan Ponga in their midst who is walking on water at the moment. These Knights will charge to glory.
BRISBANE BRONCOS vs GOLD COAST TITANS – Sat 27 June @ 09:30, Suncorp Stadium
The Story thus far
A young Broncos team started 2020 at a canter but have lost their stride completely in version 2 of the season. In this Queensland derby the struggling Brisbane will be facing their neighbours from the Gold Coast. The Titans have a victory over the Tigers to show for their efforts thus far but are still at the very foot of the table and the long time struggles of the Titans persists.
Verdict
The Broncos have some superb individual talents like Pangai Jnr, Haas, Isaako and Xavier Coates, but as a unit they haven’t been able to gel. The Titans on the other hand have nowhere near the same talent but usually find it within themselves to band together and at the very least make it tough on their opponents to put them away. The big brother side could be left with egg on their face if they don’t pitch up with the right attitude but I just think that this is a get-right opportunity for the men in maroon to get their gallop back.
PARRAMATTA EELS vs CANBERRA RAIDERS – Sat 27 June @ 11:35, Bankwest Stadium
The Story thus far
The clash of the weekend sees the Eels tasked with trying to bounce back from their first loss by facing the formidable Raiders. Canberra have had an up-and-date start to the season enjoying high such as beating the Storm but also coming up short against the Knights and Manly.
Verdict
The home side will be keen us mustard to show that despite a hiccup against the current title holders last week, they are still the deserved front runners of the comp in 2020. Parramatta showed enough fight and class in last week’s loss to prove they are well capable of bouncing back this week.
MANLY SEA EAGLES vs CRONULLA SHARKS – Sun 28 June @ 07:05, Central Coast Stadium
The Story thus far
Manly have four wins and 2 losses whilst Cronulla have suffered 4 defeats thus far. The two Sea Eagle losses came against the Storm and the Eels whilst the Sharks have only beaten the Cowboys and the Bulldogs.
Verdict
The entire build-up has been about how the Sea Eagles are missing some key players for this clash, most notably Tommy Turbo. Yet the Sharks have been terrible thus far in 2020 and even missing a few key players the structure and mindset of the Sea Eagles is such at present that they should have little problem with downing a Cronulla team low on confidence and under pressure.
CANTERBURY BULLDOGS vs WEST TIGERS – Sun 28 June @ 10:30, Bankwest Stadium
The Story thus far
The Bulldogs are making up the numbers at present whilst the Tigers have only shown glimpses of what they can do.
Verdict
The likes of Leilua (x2), Grant and Aloiai should prove too much for the struggling Dogs to handle on Sunday.
