CitizenBlogHaving cleared most of my accounts after the Rugby World Cup, I then proceeded to flitter away what was left and was on the verge of shutting up shop for the year. I had a small balance left in my World Sports Betting Account and decided on a change of approach which, so far, has paid dividends.

I am usually a punter who bets either side of the line whether it be a handicap or points betting in Rugby. In other words if a bookmaker makes a team 7.5 point favourites I either go (+7.5) or (-7.5) at 9/10. The same would apply to points lines where if the total points line was 48.5 I would be either over or under at that line in search of a 90% return on investment.

With just a small balance left to play with I decided on a more conservative approach and began waiting for half-time of Rugby matches and then looking for a bet at around the 1/3 to 5/10 mark which is much shorter than I would usually play. I lumped the entire balance on a 9/20 shot and it arrived and I continued with this approach till I got to a point where I nearly trebled my money and then I scaled back on the investment not wanting to give it all back.

Of course one or two of these bets will lose, but there is something about placing a winning bet even at a shorter price that improves your confidence and makes you see the bigger picture that little bit clearer, so this is definitely a strategy I will consider following during Super Rugby in 2020.

Talking of Super Rugby, can you believe it is nearly that time of the year again and Super Rugby gets going earlier than ever with the first game on the 31st of January. We will as usual be running a free to play SuperBru Competition with prizes and if you are interested in investing R500 then search for Putyourmoneywhereyourmouthis on SuperBru.

Our Rugby Betting Show, “The Handicap, Rugby Chat That Matters” will also return at 21:00 on YouTube on Thursday nights and I hope to see you in the live chat. Finally I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of the Citizen Readers and Readers of this Column a prosperous and profitable 2020.
