CitizenBlogThose punters who like me have been betting for many years will know that every now and again you have a weekend which you just want to forget and unfortunately last weekend was one of those for me.

I called all four of the Super Rugby matches wrong on the handicap and, worse still, decided to go for upset wins for the Chiefs and the Highlanders in SuperBru and have now tumbled out of contention in our money pool.

On Friday morning I fancied over 45.5 points in the Force v Rebels match and like many I expected a fast start and backed over 21.5 points at half-time. I placed the half-time bet first and then put an equal stake on the full-time overs play. The game was awful, a typical Australian derby to be honest and it was clear that my half-time bet was buried a long way out. There were some signs that the game might open up though and I hung on to the hope that the second half would be high scoring and I could effectively pull square on the game. It wasn’t to be and another half of errors and reset scrums followed and I resigned myself to the fact that both bets had lost.

It was hours later when logging onto my account that I noticed there was an open bet slip and on inspection saw it was my full-time overs play that had not been processed. I think I had received a phone call as I was placing the bet and then forgot to go back and finish the job. I still lost on the game, but the fact that it was half of what I had thought I lost made me feel like a winner in a strange way. It is nice for a situation like that to fall in my favour as the majority of errors that I have made over the years have cost me money.

My best bet of the weekend was one that I did not place.

A quick look ahead to this weekend and I will be focused on the US PGA Championships. Brooks Koepka is my outright selection and he is currently around the 10/1 mark at Playabets. I also fancy Tony Finau to get off to one of his traditional fast starts and he is 45/1 to be first round leader.
