dc2019Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad contest the IPL Eliminator in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday, the first of two hurdles to negotiate if either side is to reach the final.

It’s knockout cricket from here onwards for the Capitals and the Sunrisers. The loser of this game will be eliminated and the winner will progress to the second qualifier against the loser of Tuesday’s play off between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. That second qualifier also takes place at this venue on Friday.

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals finished with a record of 9 wins and 5 defeats. Despite winning 4 of their last 5 they just failed to make the top 2 due to an inferior net run rate which means they are tasked with taking the longer of the routes to the final.

Shikhar Dhawan is their top run scorer with 486 runs, Shreyas Iyer has 442 and Rishabh Pant is next best with 401. With the ball Kagiso Rabada took 25 wickets in 12 matches before injury ended his tournament. Chris Morris has claimed 13 in 9 outings and Ishant Sharma has 11 wickets against his name

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Despite losing their last 2 matches the Sunrisers held on to fourth spot, finishing the round robin stage with a record of 6 wins and 8 defeats. They finished with the same points total as KKR and the Kings XI but they had a superior net run rate.

David Warner is top Sunrisers batsmen with 692 runs and Johnny Bairstow made 445 but both of those players left the tournament early to join up with their international squads ahead of the CWC. Manish Pandey has 314 runs from 10 knocks and Vijay Shankar has 219 from 13 innings.

Khaleel Ahmed is leading wicket taker for the Sunrisers with 17 in just 8 matches, Rashid Khan has 15 and Sandeep Sharma has 12

Head to Head

Matches 14, Delhi wins 5, Sunrisers wins 9

The teams met in Delhi in Match 16 and the Sunrisers claimed a 5 wicket win in a low scoring game. They restricted the Capitals to 129/8 and Jonny Bairstow hit a quick fire 48 to put them on the road to victory as the Sunrisers got up with 9 balls to spare.

The return in Hyderabad came in Match 30 and the Capitals won by 39 runs. Shreyas Iyer top scored with 45 as Delhi posted 155/7. Warner (51) and Bairstow (41) had the Sunrisers in total control but they collapsed in heap, as 72/1 became 116 all out. Rabada took 4 wickets and Morris and Keemo Paul both claimed 3.

Betting Angle

This venue wasn’t used in the first match so a pitch report would be worth keeping an eye on just before the match. Without Warner and Bairstow the Sunrisers are short of their 2 biggest guns but their bowling unit looks useful. Delhi will miss Rabada but they look to be a better batting line up.

We side with Delhi to edge it.
